According to a couple of internet sources, today is Master Chia/Gai's birthday.

So I figured I'd start a tribute thread.

Please list your favorite choreography / fights, appearances etc.

Here are some of my favorite choreographed by the good man:

The Deadly Breaking Sword - opening fight between Lian and Tuan, Lian against Doctor Gao's sycophants and the final fight

Judgment of An Assassin - fights between Hei Mo Li and Bloody Devil, Bloody Devil against Golden Whip

Avenging Eagle - Black Eagle vs Golden Spear (Ti Lung vs. Tong Gai),  Double Sword in Sleeve vs. Red and Gold Eagles, Black Eagle vs. Other Eagles

The Kung Fu Instructor - any scene with Master Wang practicing / teaching  or fighting

Opium and the Kung Fu Master - The Master relearning how to fight from his blind Sifu (Master Gai)

Shaolin Prince - all fights.

What appeals to me about Master Gai's choroegraphy is how he creates specific styles for a character and their traits often come through. What I love about Bloody Devil in Judgment of An Assassin is that you know Bloody Devil has decades of experience and his annoyance with the younger set comes through in his fighting too. Little things like that really made me appreciate the very hard work that Master Chia does.

Anyway... please discuss! And thank you Tong Chia for all of the imaginative fights, performances and all the three films you directed.

Very nice, Golden Dragon.

Teako reposted the Tong Gai interview from the Hong Kong Choreographers book so here is the link to that thread

Here are some screen shots I took from magazines posted in the Linn Hayes Memorial collection here at SC36

I know the lower of two  double pictures is from Full Moon Scimitar, the top I can't place.

And Shaolin Prince choreography...

Tong Gai and Ti on the set of Opium and the Kung Fu Master... I love Sifu Gai's blind Master here. He so reminds me of Katsu-san, but is still unique.
