DONNIE YEN CONGRATS JUMP! My opinion on Asian film in 2015! Great films, some disappointments, but it was an okay year. Bring it on, 2016 and all of your Journey to the West films!

As for Japanese cinema, I don't have much good to say about 2015. 2015 was the year when all my favorite directors disappointed me: Sion Sono (Shinjuku Swan), Takashi Ishii (Gonin Saga), Yoshihiro Nishimura (Torakage), Sogo Ishii (That's It), Takashi Miike (Yakuza Apocalypse), Nobuhiro Yamashita (Misono Universe)... Some of these films were terrible (e.g. Shinjuku Swan), some were wildly uneven (That's It), and some were just not as good as they should've been (Misono Universe).

So, what was good? Watashitachi no haa haa (Our Huff and Puff Journey) and Kim (Fuzakerunjaneyo) were the only ones that scored 4/5 from me. Then there were some entertaining ones worth seeing, such as Round Trip Heart, Makeup Room, and Love & Peace.

Kabukicho Love Hotel could be at the top of the list, but it's technically a 2014 film.Fires on the Plain could be on the list as well, but it's also a 2014 film. In fact, 2014 was quite a good year for Japanese cinema.
