One of the first and best.

Agreed. Tons of research and insight. Very interesting also as a time capsule, as the HK filmmakers are quoted expressing their feelings that the genre was on the way out in 1974.

German Bruce Lee paperback. Remember the days when people thought Bruce Lee was part German? That seems so long ago.

This recently showed up on Amazon - Re-Enter the Dragon: Genre Theory, Brucesploitation and the Sleazy Joys of Lowbrow Cinema by Stewart Home, published by Ledatape Organisation on September 24, 2018, in hardback and trade pb.

"This is the first in-depth look at movies that riff on tropes associated with Bruce Lee and that sometimes transformed this actor into a mythical superman.  The period with the greatest cluster of Brucesploitaton productions lasted less than a decade from the mid-seventies to the early-eighties, but the genre spluttered on into the twenty-first century; and although it didn't exist as a category before Bruce Lee's death, there are several films that pre-date the Little Dragon's demise that clearly belong to it. While death added another dimension to Bruce Lee's celebrity status, he was already a huge star in South East Asia before he passed away; so cynical movie producers did not need to wait for his death to exploit popular interest in Lee - even if the term Brucesploitation had yet to be coined.  Within Brucesploitation actors who copy and clone Bruce Lee make up one strand of the subgenre, but their importance can and has been over-stated. Much of the writing about Brucesploitation is fan and internet based, and many of those producing this discourse make little attempt to explain why they insist certain films belong to the genre. Too many fans write as if genre is somehow natural, rather than created and shaped both through bald assertion and by more critical discussion and thinking. It is all too common to find any martial arts film featuring certain actors and themes, or with Bruce in the title, being accepted as Brucesploitation without any debate around the issue.  This book systematically explores the genre and controversially takes a close look at which flicks really should be seen as belonging to it."

This sounds like just another Brucesploitation.  Even though the book was published three months ago, there are no Amazon customer reviews yet.   There's an article by author Stewart Homes and his interest in Bruce Lee at - https://www.3ammagazine.com/3am/re-enter-the-dragon/   Stewart Home has also written a few other books, including 69 Things to Do with a Dead Princess, What is Situationism?: A Reader, and a poetry collection.     51vtOy82%2BML._SX404_BO1,204,203,200_.jp

Anybody familiar with Marcos Ocaña and his Bruce Lee books?

His latest is apparently 587 pages! How's that possible?

Just flicked through my old copy of Intercepting Fist: The Films of Bruce Lee (Glitter Books - 1999). With contributions from Jack Hunter (Editor), Mikkita Brottman (Introduction & Brief History of Martial Arts Cinema), Kieron Butler (The Big Boss), Brian Harrison (Fist of Fury), Kieren Butler (Way of The Dragon), Andy Lowe (Enter the Dragon & Game of Death). As a 14 year old fan, this had quite a lot of information that was new to me at the time. It made me aware of The Shaw Brothers studios, and Korean movies such as The Crush (1972).. I always felt it could have been done a lot better, with a section on Bruceploitation?. Maybe inclusion of his T.V work, a lot of stuff has been skimmed over. Though this was sold as an illustrated guide to his films. At the time I purchased this, all the images inside were new to me. This might not be the best Bruce Lee book out there, but it was pretty cool to have as a newbie.

Quote

Intercepting Fist is the only book to deal specifically with Lee's five major movies, and to analyse them with in depth illustrated essays, including a stunning 8-colour section of kung fu action.
