Moderator One Armed Boxer Posted November 10, 2015 Moderator Share Posted November 10, 2015 After his smash hit 'Veteran', Ryoo Seung-wan is now gearing up for his next feature, which has been announced as 'Battleship Island', a production thay the director had touched on in a recent interview. Set on Hashima Island in Japan, the movie will revolve around the story of Korean laborers force to work by the Japanese military during World War II, who plan to escape to the island. Filming is set to start next year, with 'Veteran' star Hwang Jeong-min rumored to be taking a leading role. While it'll clearly be a completely different genre than the likes of 'The Berlin File' and his other efforts, it sounds like this could be more similar to Tsui Hark's 'The Taking of Tiger Mountain'. Either way, any new Ryoo Seung-wan movie is a reason to celebrate!
Member AlbertV Posted August 7, 2017 Member Share Posted August 7, 2017 I got to see the film this past weekend. While it's not exactly historically accurate to a tee, I still enjoyed it. Hwang Jeong-Min and So Ji-Sub gave great performances and the final "escape" looked like a war on its own. https://worldfilmgeek.com/2017/08/05/review-the-battleship-island-2017/
