Member J.J. Hayden Posted February 2, 2023 Member Share Posted February 2, 2023 Sorry, I forgot to give an update on this one too , so deep in research, so much put on hold. I can confirm that this bts photo (kindly shared by @One Armed Boxer) is from 1989's Super Hong Kil-dong 3. Although the same Kwan-dao is used in Boy Wong Fei-hung [1993], Won Jin's hair was still shaven from filming Hero From Beyond The Boundary Of Time [1993]. Although neither of Won Jin's characters use a Kwan-dao in the film, the main hero, Super Hong Kil-dong does. Won Jin does plenty of stunt doubling in this film and when it comes to doubling lead actor Kim Jeong-shik they make very little effort to cover it up When I get the time I'll upload some of the fights as it's at least 75% Won Jin doing the action, including..... a sequence with said Kwan-dao. It's funny how people mistook Won Jin for Yuen Biao, as they share a lot in common: They seemed to double for everyone; They were awesome kickers; They were incredible acrobats; and they never became as big a star as they deserved.

I wish the KMDB would include TV stuff, they do VERY RARELY and it's bare bones, e.g. basically saying ONE of the Korean street fighter shows exists and giving two cast members, neither of which are hyperlinked to their respective filmography pages. Such hard work. Cheers for sharing.
Member J.J. Hayden Posted March 15, 2023 Member Share Posted March 15, 2023 It seems I'd come across this MBC mini series before, but there's so little info, I had no idea that Won Jin was in it, but there are some other familiar faces too: Jang Jeong-guk; Kim Yeong-in; Hyeon Kil-soo; and Kwon Il-soo an action director. It's a shame but I can't find any footage, all I could find was 2 pics, that's it I think it could be a sequel to the earlier MBC drama The Great Swordsman. They're connected, as they share man of the same cast and crew, I wonder if Won Jin worked on that too. I've not found anything yet, will have to make time for a deep dive at some point.
Member J.J. Hayden Posted March 17, 2023 Member Share Posted March 17, 2023 Not sure if I've ever poster this vid in this thread, I've posted it in the "questions" thread but unfortunately the only lead seems to be a dead end. If anyone with knowledge on this is willing to help, that would be greatly appreciated. I discovered this clip many years ago (not sure if it was on YT or a Korean site), it was titled VINDICTIVE VENOM PT 2 KIM WON JIN. I doubt this is accurate though, as the story of Vindictive Venom seemed to be all wrapped up. It could be another TV movie from Raven Chang (aka Seol Chi-guk), but everything about it is still a mystery. Member J.J. Hayden Posted March 17, 2023 Member Share Posted March 17, 2023 Another brand new Won Jin project, DMZ Daeseong-dong. It's a four episode mini-series for D'Live, that just began airing last night. As you might of guessed from the title, it involves the border North/South border. Apparently it's a comedy drama in which a North Korean soldier wins 52 Billion and defects to the South. It's Directed by Im Chang-jae and stars: Kwon Hae-seong; Jeong Hye-in; Kim Ah-ra, and Lee Hwang-eui. Won Jin is the action director, but hopefully he'll be making another on screen appearance too, fingers crossed.

Member J.J. Hayden Posted March 18, 2023 Member Share Posted March 18, 2023 Special thanks to @rdenn, now that I've had access to the films credits, I've translated the cast and crew, and most importantly the title Although the film shares a few cast members and locations it's actually not connected to Vindictive Venom and was filmed a year or so earlier. It's real name is Achilles Heel [1997] and was directed by Ham Cheol-hoon, who may be familiar to Korean action fans, he's been playing side roles in many films from the late 70's onward, and during the 90's was a prolific action director before settling more into directing and cinematography. The role that springs to my mind also has a Won Jin connection, as he played the senior of Won Jin and the two kids in Brave Trio [1988] (Won Jin's first starring Role), he gets a cool little fight scene where he gets to show that he could've been a star too, with those kicking and gymnastic skills. Ham Cheol-hoon also appeared in Won Jin's first film after coming back from Hong Kong, Boy Wong Fei-hung [1993]. Lee In-seop (Jackie Chan's main stunt double) is the lead and Ricky Jun is here too but in a supporting role. There's some other familiar names such as Yang Tae-gil, Choe Myung-ho and Kim Min-soo (but which one ). Of course Won Jin is the special guest star, story of his life . Feels great to solve this mystery at last.
Member J.J. Hayden Posted May 13, 2023 Member Share Posted May 13, 2023 Here's a cool bts photo from Operation Scorpio I've had for a while, but only recently got help translating it (thanks @String) then it got put on hold again, so busy. But the text on the image itself isn't of much interest except that the film at that point was called Manga Fist. The more interesting thing is the caption on the Korean blog said that this was the first day of filming at Golden Harvest Studios in 1991. As you can see we have the main cast: Chin Ka-lok; Won Jin; Liu Chia-liang; May Lo Mei-mei and Wu Fung all looking very happy together. 3
Member J.J. Hayden Posted May 22, 2023 Member Share Posted May 22, 2023 (edited) Here's an update that'd be of interest to @One Armed Boxer. It took quite a bit of sleuthing but eventually I tracked down a copy of Eleven Men Playing The Flute. As you can see below, Won Jin played least two different henchmen (one with a tash and then later no tash), although he's just a stuntman here, he does get to do a bit of one-to-one swordplay against Mang Fei. It's likely that he was also doing some stunt doubling too, but I've not had time to give that a focussed look yet. Won Jin getting his face sliced up by Mang Fei. Won Jin again of the left as a different character. EDIT: I had noted the image below before but wasn't 100%, so I left it. But after looking over the film again (for other research), I'm happy to say I'm convinced. Won Jin yet again, this time as one of the straw hats. Hopefully there's even more Won Jin films hiding out there. Cheers Edited May 29, 2023 by J.J. Hayden
Member J.J. Hayden Posted May 30, 2023 Member Share Posted May 30, 2023 After following a couple of my hunches, I'm very happy to say that they both payed off, one big time. Two new undiscovered Won Jin films, one of them I'll post soon as not only is Won Jin playing at least 6 roles, but several other familiar faces are there in multiple roles too, so just need to organise it a bit. But here is the lesser of the two, where Won Jin (and a few other familiar faces to fans of Korean martial arts) has a small role as a brawler in a street fight between two rival companies in 1988's The Age Of Success. Won Jin at the very back of the truck-full of great Korean stuntmen. So many of his films are unlisted anywhere (except my filmography of course, which has now been added to the HKMDB along with my bio), just go to show you've gotta keep your eyes peeled. Cheers
Member J.J. Hayden Posted June 2, 2023 Member Share Posted June 2, 2023 Yes, this one was quite a find. My hunches are usually correct, but it's not often they pay off this well. The Taiwanese/Korean cross-over movie Legend Of Peach Blossom is full of familiar Korean martial arts actors, many playing several roles (one I spotted playing at least 7!!!). But what's the best bit for me is that it has my main man Won Jin playing at least 6 roles!!!! There was possibly some more but I couldn't 100% them. Just goes to show how unappreciated the Korean martial arts guys were, when so much is missing from their filmographies. Please keep an eye out for Taiwanese films that feature some Koreans and let me know, you never know who might be hidden in the cast. #1 - He is one of the guys spinning around and using the wire from their hat to whip a people, anyone have a name for that? #2 - Showing up again as one of the many staff wielders. #3 - Doubling up as a woman, something that was quite common in his career due to his size. #4 - This time he's grown a beard, playing one of the black cultists in the dungeon. #5 - harder to get screenshots of these next two due to the quality of the film, but it's more obvious when in motion. Won Jin as one of the white cultists in the final battle. #6 - The final one I could confirm. Won Jin playing one of the cultist wearing a turban(?), also in the final battle. As you can tell, I was very pleased with this discovery, eternal vigilance, that's the ticket Special thanks to @bigrogie for helping me get access to a better quality version than what I had. Cheers 5

Moderator One Armed Boxer Posted July 18, 2023 Moderator Share Posted July 18, 2023 Won Jin recently made a short film called 'Jump Senior' which he not only starred in, but also directed, wrote, and choreographed the action. It's currently doing the rounds on the short film festival circuit in Korea. 5

Member J.J. Hayden Posted August 25, 2023 Member Share Posted August 25, 2023 I do have a couple more WJ updates to do, but I'm bogged down with probably my biggest project yet, but this one couldn't wait. I'm happy to say that Won Jin's latest film Jump Senior has already won some awards at the FICOCC Five Continents International Film Festival. The film won Best Comedy Short Film and Won Jin himself was awarded a Special Mention Lead Actor Short Film. I'm happy he's doing so well, hopefully we'll get to see this one. Member J.J. Hayden Posted August 28, 2023 Member Share Posted August 28, 2023 Aside from his own short film Jump Senior, Won Jin has still been busy working as an action director on other short films. He has been recruited as action director for two projects by the Space Gold Group: Space One Kidnap; and Space One Rose; with a third short Villain & Bodyguard in the works. Edit: While getting this together I saw that Won Jin has had more success with Jump Senior, winning Best Director at the Heart Of Europe International Film Festival. Manse!!!!!
Member J.J. Hayden Posted August 30, 2023 Member Share Posted August 30, 2023 Some more awards for Jump Senior. It's unstoppable!!! This might be a good time to upload some of the random pics I'd given the IMDB, as I came across my own bios for some people that I hadn't uploaded there. But I don't mind as they did leave my name on it. A strange poster of the IFD version of Brave Trio, shabbily slapping Won Jin's picture over the top GOD style at least it shoes his great flexibility. Won Jin's such a little guy, you wouldn't know he was 18 when making this It may be brief, but at least WJ get to show some of his stuff against the king Hwang Jeong-ri, though I think in this shot Hwang might be doubled by Tino Wong Cheung here. Moon Lee Choi-fung vs Won Jin, that scene with the white van and the greenery I saw all those years ago and thought I dreamed ....god it's been at least 10 years now And finally, a couple of kicks from Women On The Run. Member J.J. Hayden Posted September 2, 2023 Member Share Posted September 2, 2023 More awards for Jump Senior And more pics I gave to IMDB, I'd forgotten I'd put them in another folder as they're behind the scenes: Training Lee Cheong-ah for her role in Sunday Seoul, on which Won Jin was also the action director. A film more familiar to fans only know his Hong Kong work, Women On The Run. Doing a cool pose for the camera. Cheers 1
Member J.J. Hayden Posted September 26, 2023 Member Share Posted September 26, 2023 (edited) They just keep coming, at the Grand Pixel International Film Festival, Won Jin got Special Jury Awards for Best Actor and Best Screenplay, and also won in the category of Best Director. Hopefully the success of Jump Senior will make the Korean film industry pay attention and give Won Jin some more prominent roles...without cutting his scenes of course Cheers Edited September 26, 2023 by J.J. Member J.J. Hayden Posted September 30, 2023 Member Share Posted September 30, 2023 At this rate I could start up a thread solely dedicated to Jump Senior's awards collection Won Jin won three awards from the Tamizhagam International Film Festival India for: Best Actor; Best Concept; and Best International Short Film. But it doesn't stop there, we also have the "Ficitperu" Trujillo Independent Film Festival, Peru, where Jump Senior took the award for Best Short Film Comedy.
