Member J.J. Hayden Posted April 4, 2022 Member Share Posted April 4, 2022 (edited) This pic is slightly better quality than the one I gave IMDB. Again it show Won Jin with Shu Qi, who admirably did a lot of work herself, though more complex and dangerous moves were handled by Won Jin and one of his many protégés who went on to do great things, Oh Se-yeong. After leaving Won Jin's stunt team, Oh went on to form another great team, founded by himself and Jackie Chan Stunt Team member Lee In-seop. You may have heard of them, Triple A (All About Action). Member J.J. Hayden Posted April 4, 2022 Member Share Posted April 4, 2022 Here is a behind the scenes shot of Won Jin and The Suspect star Gong Yoo. It had been ten years since Won Jin had been given an onscreen fighting role and he was fantastic. The whacky camerawork didn't do it any favours though.
Member J.J. Hayden Posted April 4, 2022 Member Share Posted April 4, 2022 (edited) Won Jin and Gong Yoo behind the scenes, doing some martial arts training for their brief but astonishing fight scene in the subway. I'll upload the fight at some point since @AlbertV's YT links are no longer available. The problem is that the action's already blurry because of the camerawork and then cutting it out tends to reduce the quality too, but it's better than nothing. Edited April 5, 2022 by J.J. Member J.J. Hayden Posted April 11, 2022 Member Share Posted April 11, 2022 I must've got distracted when working on this, as I forgot to move it here after getting help with identifying of one of the guys, I can't remember exactly who helped, I think it was @Mike Leeder, cheers to whoever it was. The Korean site stated that this was taken in 1992, however, I believe it is actually 1993 during the filming of Hero From Beyond The Boundary Of Time, due to the hair length of both Won Jin and Gary, also the presence of Sophia as she and Won Jin worked on the film together. From left: Gary Daniels; Ron Hall; Won Jin; Sophia Crawford; Mark Houghton. What a dream team, wish they'd have made a movie with them all together. I wonder if Ron Hall was just visiting Hong Kong as I don't recall seeing him in any films made there? Cheers

Member J.J. Hayden Posted May 1, 2022 Member Share Posted May 1, 2022 (edited) Although I've not managed to access the full footage, I managed to find some stuff and I'm happy to announce yet again, a return to the front of the cam for super-kicker Won Jin!!! It seems like just the one fight with the star Lee Joon-gi, but it looks good and another sign that at least some in the biz are taking notice of his still formidable talents, hopefully there'll be more. As I haven't had access to the credits I can't tell how much credit he gets for the action scenes, I know there's another action coach but couldn't see his face, so it could be Won Jin shared action director duties. EDIT: I managed to track down the credits and the action directors are Kim Min-soo and Lee Soo-min (two of the SAS guys), though I'm sure Won Jin will of had some uncredited (as usual) input when it comes to the action. Moderator One Armed Boxer Posted May 26, 2022 Moderator Share Posted May 26, 2022 After appearing onscreen together in the (as yet unreleased) 'Tiger's Trigger' that was filmed in late 2019, Won Jin and Casanova Wong are reuniting for 'Senior Bodyguard/시니어 보디가드', only this time Won Jin is action directing Casanova behind the camera. Some shots of filming below -

It's great that so many of the early Korean action stars are still good friends and working together on projects. Hopefully someday we'll get to see the results. This concerns me though, as it seems to confirm my suspicion, as I'd seen this fight scene with the codes and stuff on the scene (I can't remember what they call it) so I know it not footage taken directly from the aired show. But in episode one it had a truncated version of the fight with the girls and was the same location etc. but no Won Jin. I've seen 14 eps and he's not showed up. Hopefully that was a flash forward or they're gonna do a flashback for the full fight. If not then once again Won Jin has gotten screwed. He seems to be the person with the most cut scenes in martial arts history. It's ridiculous. 2

Simple answer on this one, just need to read the accompanying YouTube clip description, which unfortunately confirms your fears.

God damn I hate being right about everything, lol. Stupid that I missed that, I've been researching too hard and turned my brain to mush, I should take a break really. It's such a shame they cut the fights when there's plenty of fluff which could've been done away with instead. The guy has had so many misfortunes during his career, it makes me respect him more for carrying on, but boy does it make me mad. At least the fight has been released (thanks to the humble star) so fans of martial arts can enjoy it in full. Cheers for the update.

Apparently in 1983 a co-production between Taiwan and Korea was shot on-location in Korea that Won Jin worked on both behind and in front of the camera. The title is 'Eleven Men Playing the Flute', and it featured Meng Fei, Jack Long and Philip So Yuen-Fung (you can see Won Jin with all 3 below). I've barely been able to find any information on this one anywhere, and it doesn't show up on hkmdb or the kmdb, but it definitely exists! Think I've seen that tape for sale in a shop in Seoul. Will double check next time.

I hope it brings Wang Ho (Casanova Wong) and Won Jin some more opportunities to show off some classic Korean martial arts action. Won Jin showing off his iconic "Scorpion Stance". I wonder if it was really Jack Wong who doubled Won Jin for the staircase fall? The poor guy looks like Chin Kar-Lok to me. Despite the poor box-office results and some fans talking about it in a negative way, I think it's one of the '90s best and absolutely love it.

I watched it only once in the 90's, on a bonus VHS in a magazine, and I remember that I was totally mesmerized by the scorpion style and that I loved the movie. Funny enough that I discovered it by chance while watching another HKL release, the Heromakers documentary. He doesn't name the film or the people involved but it's clear he's talking about that window/stair stunt for Won Jin in Operation Scorpio, and the 9 month break in his career due to the injury seems match up with his filmography on HKMDB.
