Member AlbertV Posted October 2, 2015 Member Share Posted October 2, 2015 Scott Adkins is truly a definitive name in today's generation of martial arts action cinema. Aside from taekwondo, Scott is well versed in Kickboxing, Ninjitsu, Judo, Karate, Jujitsu, Wushu, Krav Maga, Capoeira, Jeet Kune Do, and Gymnastics. He started his film career in Hong Kong when he was discovered by Stephen Tung Wai, who cast him as a competitor in the action film Extreme Challenge. Then came a bit part as a bodyguard for the main villain in Jackie Chan's The Accidental Spy. Shortly after, Adkins accepted the role of lead villain Dr. Lang in Tsui Hark's very atrocious sequel Black Mask 2: City of Masks. His last Hong Kong film would be The Medallion, where he was one of the three core henchman to lead villain Julian Sands. (Reuben Langdon and Paul Andreovski were the other two). In 2003, he met the filmmaker he was destined to work with: Isaac Florentine, an Israeli-born filmmaker who was also a well known exponent of Shotokan Karate. Florentine had established himself with making low-budget yet quality martial arts action films plus he worked alongside Jeff Pruitt as a choreographer on the Power Rangers series. If anyone could boost up Adkins as a potential action star, it was Florentine. Florentine cast Adkins as SAS officer Talbot, who assists the titular Special Forces as well as holding a grudge against the number one henchman of the lead villain, who killed his partner. Adkins finally got to showcase what he can do under the choreography of Alpha Stunts co-founder Akihiro "Yuji" Noguchi and his climactic brawl against Lithuanian martial artist, stuntman, and circus performer Vladik Jakucevicius is a delight to watch. In 2006, Adkins gained a massive following with his breakout role of Russian powerhouse Yuri Boyka in Undisputed II: Last Man Standing. Isaac Floretine directed the sequel to the 2002 prison boxing flick. However, knowing that martial arts are more exciting to see on screen, Florentine opted to use boxing vs. martial arts with Michael Jai White replacing Ving Rhames as former heavyweight champion George "Iceman" Chambers, who is set up in a Russian prison to face Boyka. Under J.J. Perry's master fight choreography, Adkins truly is the reason to see the film action-wise. Interestingly enough, the character of Boyka is truly religious and is shown not to be a truly bad guy as seen in a pivotal scene. He just wants to show that he is "the most complete fighter in the world". In 2008, Adkins was given the chance to work with one of his martial arts idols, Jean-Claude Van Damme, on The Shepherd: Border Patrol. Adkins played the villain here and the film was directed by Florentine. However, many felt it didn't really have the feel of a Florentine film and that is with good reason: Florentine was hired by another production company for this film and they took over editing. After the experience, Florentine seems to be more comfortable with the Bulgaria-based Nu Image, who show they completely trust Florentine and his vision of action. As for Adkins, he worked with Van Damme again on 2011's Assassination Games, 2012's Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning, and 2012's The Expendables 2. In 2009, Florentine and Adkins worked together on Ninja, in which Adkins played Casey Bowman, an American raised in Japan to learn Ninjitsu and is forced to become the protector of the armor of the last Koga Ninja from the hands of a vengeful former classmate. The following year, Adkins returned to his breakout character of Yuri Boyka in Undisputed III: Redemption, where he enters a prison tournament where the winner will earn his freedom. Adkins unleashed all sorts of fury against the likes of Lateef Crowder and Marko Zaror. In 2013, Scott reprised his role of Casey Bowman in the far superior sequel Ninja: Shadow of a Tear, which pitted him against Kane Kosugi and in 2015, film the long awaited sequel Boyka: Undisputed IV. However, while he is more known for his martial arts films, he has proven to be a versatile actor. He had a straight acting performance in the action film Pit Fighter starring Dominique Vandenberg. He played a soccer player in the opening of the 2006 reboot of The Pink Panther. He's even starred in two horror films, 2008's Stag Night and 2015's Re: Kill (the latter was filmed in 2012 but is being released this month). In December, he will have two of his films released in the same week. December 1 will see the release of Zero Tolerance opposite Dustin Nguyen on DVD from Lionsgate while December 4 will see he and Isaac Florentine reunite for the action thriller Close Range in limited theaters and VOD. 2016 will see Adkins in the aforementioned Undisputed IV along with Jarhead 3: The Siege and Eliminators so far. But truly, Scott Adkins is truly one busy actor who just loves to do what he does...kick butt and take names. Here's video of a seminar Adkins did with Aaron Gassor, aka Ginger Ninja Trickster. The two worked together on the recently completed Eliminators, in which Adkins stars and Gassor doing stunts.
Member kokuryuha Posted October 2, 2015 Member Share Posted October 2, 2015 You forgot to mention Scotty's acting credit in Green Street Hooligans 3.He did some good acting as well as showcasing his trademark physical feats of action. He would make an excellent Iron fist for marvel comics or Richard Dragon for D.C. comics when they decide to get up off their asses and start doing more diverse characters for the big screen.

Member DragonClaws Posted March 23, 2017 Member Share Posted March 23, 2017 Scott Adkins landed a small role in the up-coming actioner American Assassin starring Michael Keaton and Taylor Kitsch. British actor David Suchet will also be appearing in the movie. With Adkins name high on the IMDB cast list, lets hope he gets some decent screen time.
