Member Hei Meigui Posted July 26, 2015 Member Share Posted July 26, 2015 Ok, I am officially convinced now I am an addict!! I just got into Chinese Cinema within the last year and Shaw Brother's Films since March of this year. I guess I have become a little obsessive!! (new fu fan can be obsessed too Kung Fu Bob !! and don't let me have heard that something is OOP or not supposed to be available in that version, or has a different ending in a certain release!!!! I have all three cuts of the Grandmaster with Tony Leung Chiu Wai!) Its funny I started with more recent historical Chinese drama's and Wuxia (Yes I like me some wire-fu!!) and then went backwards into the Shaw Brother's! I was going to organize this list by actor, by year or something but it was so long I'm just posting it!! I have separated it into DVD and digital content. All of these were new not used. And no I'm not rich!! It can be a benefit to not having kids or other vices!! I have watched most all of these at least once but the Lily Ling Opera films I'm keeping unopened. DVD The Deadly Breaking Sword 5 Deadly Venoms Shaolin vs Wu Tang The Jade Tiger Temple of the Red Lotus The Sword and the Lute The Twin Swords Return of the 5 Deadly Venoms Clans of Intrigue House of Traps The Wandering Swordsman Vengeance is a Golden Blade The Water Margin Have Sword Will Travel Martial Club Shaolin Mantis My Young Auntie Swordsman and Enchantress The Sentimental Swordsman The Bastard Swordsman Return of the Bastard Swordsman The Magic Blade Opium and the Kung Fu Master Lion vs Lion King Eagle Death Duel Holy Flame of the Martial World Buddhas Palm Legend of the Bat Perils of the Sentimental Swordsman Come Drink with Me Golden Swallow Opera - Lily Ling Po Lady General The Dream of the Red Chamber West Chamber The Crimson Palm The Female Prince Forever and Ever The Mermaid The Love Eterne A Maid from Heaven Digital Media iTunes Shaolin Abbot Shaolin Intruders Shaolin Prince The Treasure Hunters The Web of Death The Young Vagabond The 14 Amazons The 36th Chamber of Shaolin 8 Diagram Pole Fighter Shaolin Hand Lock The Avenging Eagle Blood Brothers Challenge of the Masters Clan of the White Lotus Crippled Avengers The Deadly Duo The Delightful Forest Dirty Ho Disciples of the 36th Chamber Executioners from Shaolin Five Shaolin Masters Heroes of the East Invincible Shaolin Kid from KwanTung The Kid with the Golden Arm Killer Clans King Boxer The Kung Fu Instructor Legendary Weapons of China The New One Armed Swordsman One Armed Swordsman Return to the 36th Chamber On Order Ten Tigers of KwanTung Tiger Killer Heaven Sword and Dragon Chamber 1 & 2 Return of the Sentimental Swordsman The Brave Archer 1, 2, 3 The Brave Archer and His Mate The Emperor and his Brother I just came off a huge Marvel bender so I had to rebound with something!! (going to a 3D IMAX film can buy quite a few videos instead!!) Among other Asian cinema, I am trying to get all of Tsui Harks films, Wong Kar Wai's, and films with Donnie Yen . So for my sake don't mention that something is hard to find or mention that there is a complete version of something I may have that is a cut version!! SMK
Incredible list you have there. Seeing how you bought all these new, are you not open to purchasing a used DVD? You have plans to get any SB films on blu-ray? I applaud your collection.

You have plans to get any SB films on blu-ray? I applaud your collection. I haven't purchased any Shaw's used I haven't had to. I also try to get IVL or other Region 3 disks. I do have some used of my other Kung Fu films. I have a few VCD's I have one Laser Disk ( I don't have a player yet and I am thinking of getting a VCR to be able to get old VHS takes to transfer to disk for hard to get films.) It doesn't have to be new it just has to be quality and complete uncut versions. I also have a huge set of films I have downloaded from YouTube. I am looking for a good version of Shaolin vs Wu Tang for example and I would take that used. I have two copies that are probably bootlegs and one is cut but has all the scenes, but cut scenes are in the end like extra clips. The other version has the film cut off and the subbs are bad. I try to stick to Subbs that is my only thing.
Member Secret Executioner Posted July 26, 2015 Member Share Posted July 26, 2015 My Shaw collection seems very small by comparison (I have barely 30 titles, all on DVD). But I've started collecting Shaw movies roughly 2 years ago, andI never fully focused on Shaws, I also collect horror, science-fiction, Alfred Hitchcock, Jackie Chan and independent Kung Fu films. And I'm usually picky when I buy those (several genres of horror or SF don't interest me much, I'm a bit picky on the Hitchcock stuff, I tend to avoid some of the more recent duds from Jackie), but I also sometimes get into other stuff (can be a Western, a war film, old movies - German or Italian usually - or stuff that just catches my attention like The Diary Of Anne Frank or a Coco Chanel biopic). I also spent these last three years tracking every Stanley Kubrick movie on DVD (he only made 13 films so it's easier to get everything than it is with someone like Hitchcock who made 54 films) and his early (pre-Lolita) stuff was a pain to find, but now I got all of them minus Fear And Desire which seems near impossible to get (saw it in the theater when it was re-released though). Member KenHashibe Posted July 26, 2015 Member Share Posted July 26, 2015 That's one impressive collection you have there. Member Secret Executioner Posted July 26, 2015 Member Share Posted July 26, 2015 Impressive collection, Lady. Have you considered yesasia for the IVL SAE and BA3 ? They have a lot of nice stuff there when it comes to Shaw - IVL, Taiwanese, US (Image, Dragon Dynasty)... I think I've even seen Thai DVDs. Hi Secret, I tried YesAsia for the IVL Swordsman and Enchantress no dice. They do have the Thai version, but I am holding out hope that the Amazon copy eventually arrives. I got Brave Archer 3 from a seller on eBay (so I may have a second copy coming if the Amazon ever shows up.) I did purchase 3 IVLs from Yes Asia and asked to be put on the waiting list for The Devil's Mirror. I used them a few times during my Italian cult film days, I appreciate the info! I left a few off my list... oy. I knew I'd forget some...
Administrator KUNG FU BOB Posted July 26, 2015 Administrator Share Posted July 26, 2015 I saw SHAOLIN VS. WU TANG (1983, HK, aka. Member KenHashibe Posted July 26, 2015 Member Share Posted July 26, 2015 Here's the list of the Shaw Brothers films I have... and YES, I know I have a problem! But still... it's better than smoking crack, right?! LOL They are all physical DVDS, Blu-rays, a few VCDs, and DVD-Rs of the titles released on the Ziieagle Box. Okay, you win. Holy crap, Bob. Have you seen all of these movies? Also, do you own a ZiiEagle? If so, where did you buy it? Impressive collection.
Member paimeifist Posted July 26, 2015 Member Share Posted July 26, 2015 Damn Bob, people think I am weird for having two shelves on a book shelf full of em.. You've got a damn storage unit full!

Administrator KUNG FU BOB Posted July 26, 2015 Administrator Share Posted July 26, 2015 Sex Life Of Bruce Lee ?! Shit, now THAT is a freakin' bad title... It has exploitation written all over it. It sure is! The only thing the movie has more of than sleaze and inaccuracies, is alternate titles! Okay, you win. Holy crap, Bob. Have you seen all of these movies? Also, do you own a ZiiEagle? If so, where did you buy it? Impressive collection. Many of them I've seen multiple times, but there are around 30-40 that I haven't watched yet. No, I don't own the Ziieagle Box. I have DVD-R copies of a lot of the movies that were on there that hadn't previously been released. Someone cracked the box, and made copies, and I traded for them. Damn Bob, people think I am weird for having two shelves on a book shelf full of em.. You've got a damn storage unit full! Oh, I promise you- people do think I'm weird! Bob's the man. He must have entire warehouses to stock his DVDs. No storage units for me. All my movies are on shelves in my 'Temple of the Dragon Monkey' (my 'man-cave' basement lair). Here's a couple of photos of my Shaw Brothers shelf I took about twelve years ago, right after I moved into my house (hence the mess) and built the shelf. It's crude- nothing fancy- but it serves it's purpose. Soon after it was full though, and I had to add more shelves to it. Kung Fu Bob indeed! That's an awesome collection. Thanks. Member Hei Meigui Posted July 27, 2015 Author Member Share Posted July 27, 2015 My Shaw collection seems very small by comparison (I have barely 30 titles, all on DVD). I also have some Hitchcock that I bought on iTunes when it first started up that have the episodes of the TV shows by season. This film? Fear and Desire I downloaded it
Member Hei Meigui Posted July 27, 2015 Author Member Share Posted July 27, 2015 Incredible list you have there. Seeing how you bought all these new, are you not open to purchasing a used DVD? You have plans to get any SB films on blu-ray? I applaud your collection. Thanks Are they on Blue Ray? I never really think of that because I try to get Region 3 versions and always get the English subbed versions, so they aren't remastered Blu-Ray. I am open to purchasing used and have a few non-Shaws that are used. I'll especially do that if it's rare or I really like it.
Member Hei Meigui Posted July 27, 2015 Author Member Share Posted July 27, 2015 Mine has become disgustingly huge over the past month... to say that I am addicted to Shaw is putting it mildly. Life Gamble (dvd, I wish I had Navarro release) I am holding out hope I will get the IVL Swordsman and Enchantress and Brave Archer 3 from Amazon, but… Both Amazon and Ebay are where I have had good luck with IVL versions from certain sellers. Right now - Swordsman and Enchantress on Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ti-Lung-Swordsman-and-Enchantress-Lau-Wing-HK-IVL-Martial-Arts-OOP-1978-DVD-/371373928006?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item56779c6e46 The Brave Archer 3 - Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Brave-Archer-3-Original-Brothers-Collection/dp/B005EJIFDQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1437980111&sr=8-2&keywords=brave+archer+3 And what do you mean by the Navarro release of Life Gambler? Of the sellers above on Amazon who have that version I have bought from all of them. Do you have a region 3 player? I only buy English subbs so most of mine like that are IVL from Hong Kong or Taiwan
Member Hei Meigui Posted July 27, 2015 Author Member Share Posted July 27, 2015 I saw SHAOLIN VS. WU TANG (1983, HK, aka. Shaolin and Wu Tang) above, and wanted to point out that it's not actually a Shaw Brothers production. It's one that I used to have on my SB shelf though, along with a few other titles that feel like they should be SB films... like ONE-ARMED BOXER (1971, HK, aka. The Chinese Professionals). Here's the list of the Shaw Brothers films I have... and YES, I know I have a problem! But still... it's better than smoking crack, right?! LOL They are all physical DVDS, Blu-rays, a few VCDs, and DVD-Rs of the titles released on the Ziieagle Box. Yes Bob, it is better than crack because you would have OD'd by now!!! I have to give you mad respect!! If Shaw's collection is destroyed they can come to you!! Respect the collection!! So do you have a good copy of Shaolin vs Wu Tang? Member Hei Meigui Posted July 27, 2015 Author Member Share Posted July 27, 2015 That's one impressive collection you have there. My collection seems small compared to yours, but still, I own a lot of really obscure SB films: DVD: 36th Chamber Brave Archer Come Drink With Me Five Shaolin Masters Five Venoms Heroes of the East Heroic Ones Kingdom and the Beauty Love Eterne Mad Monkey Kung Fu Martial Club My Young Auntie VCD: Anonymous Heroes Crazy Shaolin Disciples Destiny's Champion Fast Fingers Fighting Fool Hero (1997) Hong Kong Playboys House of 72 Tenants Imposter Love On Delivery Man of Iron Mr. Funny Bone What Price Honesty Wits of the Brats This list doesn't include the films I've seen at a theater or films I've seen on Hulu. Ken which are the harder ones to find? I do have some VCD's but not Shaw movies but I'm open to that format. Nice collection

Of the sellers above on Amazon who have that version I have bought from all of them. Do you have a region 3 player? I only buy English subbs so most of mine like that are IVL from Hong Kong or Taiwan I am patiently hoping that seller on eBay will still have Swordsman and Enchantress if the copy I ordered from a HK seller on Amazon does not come through in a couple of weeks. I already nabbed Brave Archer 3 and I do not want to triple dip despite how much I love SaE. BA3 was cheap enough to do so, so I bought a copy from eBay. I have an all region dvd / blu ray player now, so I am buying a lot of IVL / Taiwan dvds. Navarro were the folks who ran Funimation and just before Funimation released those 15 Shaw dvds, Navarro (as the BCI label) released a version of Life Gamble which had some extras on it, unlike the Funimation version. A seller at Amazon supposively has a very good copy of the BCI but when I asked them to double check they gave me the run around, so I'll roll with my Funimation version. Anyway... I appreciate folks posting tips but I am going to hang tight and hope the IVL of SaE does show up at my job.
Member KenHashibe Posted July 27, 2015 Member Share Posted July 27, 2015 Forgot to mention, I also have Call to Arms and Death Duel on VCD. I still haven't seen both of them yet. Ken which are the harder ones to find? I do have some VCD's but not Shaw movies but I'm open to that format. Nice collection Thanks. I might argue that all of the SB VCD's are hard to find because most of them are sold out or out of print. I buy most of my VCD's from Chinatown. They sadly don't have any classics, so I'll buy the films that aren't very well known for the sake of expanding my collection. But from doing this, I've learned that some of these lesser known movies aren't well-known for a reason: they're crap. So, do your research before buying a movie that you don't know much about (unlike me). Anyway, here are some of the hard-to-find films that I'd say are worth-buying (excluding the films that you already own): Anonymous Heroes-lacks plausibility, but quintessential for David Chiang/Ti Lung fans. Fast Fingers-fun, stupid movie about pickpockets, I've seen this movie at least 10 times though. Fighting Fool-if you liked Treasure Hunters, you'll like this one slightly less. Hero Hong Kong Playboys-for Fu Sheng fans (i.e. me), otherwise, avoid. House of 72 Tenants Imposter Man of Iron What Price Honesty-excellent film, but if The Heroic Ones turns your stomach, then this movie might give you a heart attack. If at all possible, don't pay more than $10 for a VCD. I bought all of these movies for about $4. Happy collecting!
