Recently sat down for a viewing of Revenge Of The Drunken Master starring Eagle Han & Johnny Chan. Complete with bad dubbing and excessive use of the word b*stard. This non cut and paste Godfrey Ho directed film is pretty far out. If I get some spare time this week I'll post some more thoughts on this production.

Have Sword Will Travel(so much fun...) - If anyone knows the music used in this film, kindly post. I really like it (that percussion, bells, bass stuff..)

The Anonymous Heroes I did not expect to enjoy this one as much as I did, but I like these early 70s Shaws quasi-modern thrillers.

Just re-watched Treasure Hunters. It's so energetic and fun. The fight scenes are creative and the movie's actually really funny still. Also, it stars Fu Sheng in maybe his funniest performance.

I also saw Kung Fu Wonder Child for the first time yesterday. Man, this is probably one of the strangest movies I've ever seen. There's fun wire-fu action and tons of both intentional and unintentional comedy. Lam Siu Lau is also fantastic in this movie, despite the terrible English dub. Incredibly fun movie. Too much male nudity though and what happened to that vampire subplot?

hehe that's a coincidence, I just watched Kung Fu Wonder Child last weekend !!!! and it was the first time I saw it too...... Wow.... I loved it, I had a lots of funs watching it, I loved the comedy hehe...... but what surprised me the most was the super epic ending (did not expect that at all!!!)...... and the way it just stops and says THE END !!!! it's probably the movie that sends the credits the fastest ever..... its like they do the endfight and the second its done, baaaaang theres the credits..... (and I am pretty cool calling it credits, as they dont even show haha, it just cuts so hard....)

Anyway, I enjoyed it....

and I also got the Treasure Hunters on my pile somewhere (never watched it), so Ill probably follow your advice and watch it next time I got time for a Kung Fu movie.

That's a crazy coincidence; not as crazy as the movie though. :tongueout I think I've seen more abrupt endings. There was a thread on KFC about "the lack of movie endings." A Fist Full of Talons was often mentioned. But still, the ending here was definitely out of nowhere. If anything, I thought it was overly tragic.

I also just saw Child of Peach for the first time two days ago and I think I liked that movie more. Not as funny or as insane, but it has more focus and better action. That was such a fun movie.

and I also got the Treasure Hunters on my pile somewhere (never watched it), so Ill probably follow your advice and watch it next time I got time for a Kung Fu movie.

Definitely worth a watch. Very funny kung fu comedy with creative fight scenes and Fu Sheng! One of the funniest scenes is probably "the library scene." Disgusting at times, but still hilarious.

Ninja In Action (HK, 1987)

Another cut-and-splice from Filmark, directed by Tommy Cheng and starring Stuart Smith and Louis Roth. Got this one on the French Ninjas pack, a 2-DVD pack that also includes Clash Of The Ninjas and Ninja: American Warrior - for the record, this is the first release of this film in France. :clappinghands

dvdartus.jpg

This movie opens with a gang of Ninjas attacking a taxi cab and stealing a case of jewels, only for the leader of the gang (Louis Roth) to murder all of his men, except one who disappears with the jewels. This guy eventually returns in a Taiwanese movie where he's arrested and where a lot of people (a gangster, his untrustworthy girlfriend Rose and the police) are after his diamonds. Meanwhile, back in the Gwailo part, Stuart Smith and his girlfriend are in Hong Kong to take revenge on the gang who stole the jewels because the guy who was escorting the case turns out to be the girlfriend's dad.

This movie is pretty fun, I couldn't stop laughing during what's possibly the most ridiculous sex scene ever - yeah, cause Stuart Smith and his girlfriend actually get "in action" for their first appearance in the movie. Louis Roth is enjoyably OTT too as this Ninja leader (at least the French dub didn't give him some weird accent like in Clash Of The Ninjas), and the Taiwanese movie looks pretty nice on its own (and I guess the storyline used to add the Ninja stuff is pretty close to the original story) with some decent actions, a couple of shoot-outs and some rather memorable characters (notably a police officer with an eye-patch who throws boomerangs). The soundtrack is also quite enjoyable, not sure where it comes from but it's always very catchy and fitting - I'm actually convinced the tune used during the Stuart Smith sex scene (try saying that fast times) has been lifted from a porn. :rofl

Cheers my friend.

On a sidenote, you can find this film on YouTube on the wutangcollection channel. :nodding The movie is in full screen and the quality isn't as good as on the DVD I mentionned (which is also a widescreen release), but it could be enough if you just want to watch this one out of curiosity.

Bootleg (daily motion) of Judgment of An Assassin. David Chiang as a hippie-esque tonfa / short sword dealing good guy. Big Bad Chan Wai Man with some interesting two toned eye brows and a nasty demeanor, and Ku Feng as the sweet and funny Old Hedgehog made this so much fun. The one clan wants to rule the martial world is given some corrupt court proceedings and is very entertaining despite a few minor hiccups.

While there's a character too many (The Golden whip) and some of the Grand hearings business is not clear, this film makes me wish David Chiang took on Fu Sheng's roles in the next two Sun Chung Wuxias. Whatever may have happened between Ti Lung and David Chiang, it's unfortunate they could not team up together in one of Sun's movies.

I like and appreciate Fu, but Chiang's playful contempt and rudeness here works far more naturally for me. I've really grown to respect David immensely as I watch more of his work. I've enjoyed having to rethink some of my old posts / opinions as Chiang constantly challenges me. Of all the Shaw performers I've been introduced to and really enjoy, it's nice to have some unpredictability and surprises.

This film cements my comment about how much I enjoy Sun Chung's wuxias and directing style. I will eventually track down a legitimate copy.

I watched a deadly secret for the first time starring yuan chun wu and jason pai piao and found out that it was based on a novel by my favorite wuxia author Gu Long.I enjoyed it more than I expected to because you know how in some kung fu flicks you see a familiar face that pops up who weren't mentioned in the opening credits? Well more than a few were in this particular movie. And the fighting was done well too.
