Member Jadedragon61 Posted April 28, 2012 Member Share Posted April 28, 2012 Just a note: am currently watching Deep Space 9 (I have the entire DVD set), and really like it. Good stories and action, as well. Worth watching.
Member massa_yoda Posted May 19, 2012 Member Share Posted May 19, 2012 Yep, good show. Nice solid arc for the last four seasons. The last two seasons felt like one big movie. Too bad they didn't shoot this show in widescreen...would have been even better.
Member Michael L. Posted May 28, 2012 Member Share Posted May 28, 2012 DS9 started its run a couple of years before anyone in the US was broadcasting an HDTV signal (much less anyone actually owning TVs in the new screen format) so widescreen really just wasn't much of an option. It was syndicated and trying to sell a show that wasn't going to utilize the full screen would have been pretty difficult; even Voyager was an NTSC formatted show and it was on a network (albeit a lame one). The only Star Trek series shot in widescreen was the ill-fated Enterprise!

If they would have waited a few years to make DS9, it would have been a good investment (shooting in wide). At least Enterprise was shot this way, the last season was actually very good. Member Michael L. Posted May 29, 2012 Member Share Posted May 29, 2012 You have to remember that the US was supposed to go digital in the '80s and the government changed their mind about changing the broadcast standard then... many people thought they would balk at the idea again! As Paramount has remastered the original show for HD it is more than reasonable to hold out hope for the spin-offs to get the same treatment!
