Guest Daisho2004
You know it will be interesting to see how this movie turns out, it was like the remake of Zatoichi everyone had mixed feelings about it, and I thought the movie was really good Kitano (Beat Takeshi) did a really good job on changing the character to his own version, making Zatoichi more violent which to me really made a difference in the movie. So lets see how much Sanjuro's character changes. Remake of Kurosawa's Sanjuro begins filming 13 Nov 2006 [ Japan Cinema News | Posted By: Aaron ] Source: Hoga Central Filming is indeed underway for a remake of the Akira Kurosawa classic Sanjuro. Picking up the directing reigns on this one will be Yoshimitsu Morita, who won Best Director for his film Like Ashura at the 2004 Japanese Academy Awards. Sanjuro will be played by Yuji Oda, known for his role in the Bayside Shakedown films. Actor Etsushi Toyokawa will take over the role of Hanbei Muroto, the villian of the picture, while Kenichi Matsuyama, Tamao Nakamura and Makoto Fujita round out the cast. With the decision to use the orginial screenplay, the filmmakers felt that it was time to re-introduce a classic masterpiece to a new generation of viewers. The film is scheduled to debut December 2007 in Japan.
