Cannes: Donnie Yen Heads Dog Pack in ‘Big Rescue’

Martial arts superstar Donnie Yen stars in “Big Rescue,” a 3D kung fu road movie picked up by Easternlight, the Asian film sales arm of Sydney- and Los Angeles-based Arclight Films.

“Big Rescue” tells the story of a group people who embark on fun-filled cross-country road trip but are captured by an evil villain. They are rescued by a team of Kung Fu fighting dogs who save them in the nick of time.

The film is directed and produced by Liang Ting (executive producer of Yen-starring movies “The Lost Bladesman” and “14 Blades”. Kenji Tanigaki (“Blade II”) is set as action director.

The movie is currently in post-production. Easternlight is screening footage at its booth in the Cannes Market.

“This is an action road comedy, with a Hollywood narrative structure. It blends the Kung Fu of Donnie Yen with exciting and extremely cute family fun performances by the dogs.

Yen has an enviable track record with recent hits including “Painted Skin,” the “Ip Man” franchise and last year’s “The Monkey King.” Upcoming is his role in the Weinstein Company-backed “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 2”.

This sounds... interesting. But kung fu fighting dogs, seriously? Who knows it could turn out great, with Donnie everything's usually good but even so...

One Armed Boxer

I think the only way I'd possibly watch this is if it features a cameo from this guy -
