Action star Donnie Yen’s latest movie, the 3D live-action pic Big Rescue, is making its market debut in Cannes where it will be shown to buyers for the first time by sales outfit Arclight Films’ Easternlight Films division. The pic centers on a group of people who embark on fun-filled cross-country road trip only to encounter an evil villain who captures them. Luckily, the adventure takes a positive turn thanks to a team of kung-fu fighting dogs who save them in the nick of time. Liang Ting is directing and producing. Member DiP Posted May 15, 2015 Author Member Share Posted May 15, 2015 Cannes: Donnie Yen Heads Dog Pack in ‘Big Rescue’ Martial arts superstar Donnie Yen stars in “Big Rescue,” a 3D kung fu road movie picked up by Easternlight, the Asian film sales arm of Sydney- and Los Angeles-based Arclight Films. “Big Rescue” tells the story of a group people who embark on fun-filled cross-country road trip but are captured by an evil villain. They are rescued by a team of Kung Fu fighting dogs who save them in the nick of time. The film is directed and produced by Liang Ting (executive producer of Yen-starring movies “The Lost Bladesman” and “14 Blades”. Kenji Tanigaki (“Blade II”) is set as action director. The movie is currently in post-production. Easternlight is screening footage at its booth in the Cannes Market. “This is an action road comedy, with a Hollywood narrative structure. It blends the Kung Fu of Donnie Yen with exciting and extremely cute family fun performances by the dogs. Yen has an enviable track record with recent hits including “Painted Skin,” the “Ip Man” franchise and last year’s “The Monkey King.” Upcoming is his role in the Weinstein Company-backed “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 2”.
