Don't recall anything on an Avenging Eagle remake, but I remember hearing/reading of:

- Quentin Tarantino possibly remaking Come Drink With Me (was in talk before Django Unchained came out, guess it's been scrapped).

- a remake of Shaolin Temple - the one with Jet Li - that was to be co-written by some big Hollywood writer (don't remember the name of the guy, if one in particular was ever mentionned).

I hope there will be no more talk of remakes of any Shaw Bros movies. They must not happen...

Yeah, I too feel they can only end up in disappointment, but I'd still hope they were at least enjoyable.

Thanks for the info GHW.

'Wu Xia', the 2011 movie from Peter Chan and also starring Donnie Yen, was originally pitched as a re-make of 'The One Armed Swordsman', although the final movie was quite different -

This isn't actually a Shaw Brothers movie, but it was Justin Lin who was attached to directing it, the thread is here -

Did they ever remake 5 Deadly Venoms?

No they never got to doing a remake of that and last I heard about Shaolin Temple (the one with Jet Li), Justin Lin was going to make his Chinese film directorial debut, but it looks as either 1) it's in developmental hell and 2) Lin's got quite a plate full as he has been tapped to direct STAR TREK 3

It would certainly be interesting to see this if it ever does. I doubt it will be superior to the original, as there is way too much nostalgia tied into that film, but could be decent if it had the proper casting and direction.

Kirk Wong planned a Five Venoms remake while in Hollywood during the '00s. I believe Sony or Paramount were planning it as a potential rival to the X-Men films, so that gives you the idea of where they were taking it.

Interestingly enough, the project Wong had kicking around the Mainland the last few years is an effects-heavy mutant actioner, which sounds like the same film but with the Chang Cheh connection explicitly dropped.
