Just come across this due out on May 25th for anybody that's interested. The first (and best) one is available on it's own and I might just pick that one up as 3 and 4 are pretty poor, Part 2 is decent but that doesn't seem to be out on it's own.

88 Films are fast becoming my favourite UK label. I've got quite a few of their discs now. Quality, indeed.

I checked out their website and I didn't realise that they'd released as many titles as they have, hopefully the American Ninja release signals the interest in 80s action movies as well as horror. I'll definitely be supporting them in the future.

I'm really hoping that this will actually be the uncut version, the last UK DVD release according to the BBFC was uncut but the running time was only 1hr 31 mins so they must have re-submitted a censored version as I think it's supposed to be about 95 minutes. I'll definitely wait for confirmation of this before ordering.

That's just down to PAL speed up. According to their Facebook page, they'll all be uncut.

I never bought the UK dvd so can't confirm but the reviews on Amazon say it is cut;

"This is the BBFC cut version, I advise purchasing the Region 2 dvd from Amazon France it is uncut & contains English language & menu screen."

"I strongly advise you purchase the Region 1 U.S. version of this film and its sequel(Parts 2 and 3 are in a double pack)as the uk versions are cut.Once again the bbfc strike (They do it just to p**s people off im sure).The bad thing here is that there are no extras on the dvd.But what do you expect from such an old film."

Great news about this new release anyway and special features too. :bigsmile:

The U.K MGM R2 American Ninja DVD is UNCUT. It features all the clips the BBFC trimmed for the VHS release. I still have the R2 DVD and used to own the cut VHS print. The new box set from 88Films containing Parts 1 to 4 should also be UNCUT.

The Amazon reviews are not always reliable.

Thanks for clearing that up, as I said I don't own the previous release so couldn't confirm, and yes 88Films have confirmed that their upcoming release of all 4 parts will be uncut. Out of interest what is the running time of the first movie? The BBFC have it as 91 minutes and that is why I thought it could be a censored version as I know other releases have been 95 mins. I'm aware of the PAL speed up that was mentioned but I didn't think that it would be as much as 4 minutes.

*88Films have just announced that there will be a feature length documentary on the franchise as part of the upcoming release, sounds pretty sweet to me.

Can someone confirm parts 3 and 4 are worth a watch? For the fighting sequence alone at least? Parts 1-4 on baby blu at $26 is a steal if you ask me, no?

Part 3 is very weak on storyline, but holds it`s own in action department when compared to part 1&2. If I remember correct Steve James gets more to do in fighting than before and uses swords quite nicely.
