Member Shosetsu Posted February 14, 2015 Member Share Posted February 14, 2015 The Religion of the Samurai A Study of Zen Philosophy and Discipline in China and Japan By Kaiten Nukariya [1913] It is online here: http://www.sacred-texts.com/bud/rosa/index.htm GD Y-Y Certainly a good book that you recommended, GD, but, ironically, despite its title of Religion of the Samurai, it does not delve into its connection with Swordsmanship. I believe it was the Buddhist monk Takuan who applied Buddhist ideas to Swordsmanship (Kenjitsu). And I think even the famous Yagyu family did the same. Along those lines, I was mulling over whether I should discuss that connection in my thread Kendo Masshigura because it was that series that concentrated on the true-life historical Swordsmanship of Hokushin-Ittoryu.
