Definitely one of the oddest mangas to come out of Japan - the story of an alien (who is basically a kind of big yellow octopus, with a giant yellow smiley face for a head) that's destroyed most of the moon and come to Earth with intentions of doing the same, only to advise that while waiting to do so, it'd like to be a high school teacher - is coming to screens as a live action adaptation in 2015.

 

Directed by Hasumi Eiichiro, the plot mainly revolves around the alien teaching its students techniques of how they can kill it before it decides to lay waste to the planet. If none of what I've just wrote makes much sense, don't worry, it's not you.

This does sound really strange. I've not heard of the manga, but it sounds like the kind of thing I'd find totally hilarious (in an absurd sort of way), if it is done right.

It looks rather similar to Miike's As Gods Will but without the blood and dead bodies.

Nice review! Sounds like a great movie. I'm hoping to see it tomorrow at a screening in Hollywood, but I might not be able to make it. It looks like a movie that I'd love. I'll have to check out some of your other reviews when I get the time. Keep it up!

Funimation has announced it has acquired the rights to the two live action Assassination Classroom movies and will release them in the U.S. on August 7, 2018, in Japanese with English subtitles.  I assume the movies will be sold as a set, either on Blu-ray or BD/DVD combo.  News at http://www.scifijapan.com/articles/2018/04/06/breaking-funimation-news-at-c2e2/
