I decided to join the 21st century and bought a smart tv and found the joys of vod, I'm catching up on some movies and this one was on my list, I rented and watched last night.

Can anyone tell me what are the best movies to seek out, especially like to hear from our Aussie members that grew up on these films. I've seen Razorback, Man from HK, and of course Mad Max, might have seen a couple more back in the day. Like to know what movie has the naked girls snorkeling/diving in the first part.

There was a movie I watched at a neighbors house when I was a kid(they might of had a satellite) that scared the living shit out of me, been trying to find it for years and even my movie nerd friends could never figured it out, now I think it might have been Thirst, is there a scene of a man in a soda machine draining his blood for people to drink?

Welcome to the future!

NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD is a fantastic documentary about Australian genre films for those that haven't seen it. My Down Under brother sent me a 2 DVD release of it, and it's fun from start to finish.

That sounds insane! Somehow I never managed to see THIRST. Or if I did, I don't remember.

That does sound like Thirst.

I'm going to have to get this. :nerd:

Great list bro.

Oh, and TURKEY SHOOT is also known as ESCAPE 2000. That's the title they used on the DVD version I purchased. It's an "Uncut & Uncensored" version released by Anchor Bay, and includes some cool extras. Here it is: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Escape-2000-DVD-2003-RARE-AND-OOP-ANCHOR-BAY-RELEASE-/141486469651?pt=US_DVD_HD_DVD_Blu_ray&hash=item20f1403213

I forgot all about the aka BLOOD CAMP THATCHER. That's a crazy title! :xd:

I'm really not familiar with Australian cinema, I don't think I've ever seen a single movie from over there.

Whatever that movie with the soda machine is, let me know cause I'd love to see that.

Some of those titles are great - Blood Camp Thatcher sounds way OTT, though I have no idea what the movie is like.

Don't forget the Jason Blade films, Day of the Panther and Strike of the Panther, those were Ozploitation starring Eddie Staszak...

Great documentary, it's a shame that director Mark Hartley's follow-up to it on Filipino exploitation, 'Machete Maidens Unleashed!', was such a letdown.

Speaking of Brian Trenchard Smith, he has a new movie which has just been released called 'Drive Hard' which stars John Cusack & Thomas Jane -

There's an interesting interview with him on the movie, which covers the difficulties of filming on a low budget, here -

The only other scene I remember from this movie if it is indeed Thirst is a couple people in a drive-in or movie theater and they turn the light on for the screen and there was a shadow of a man hung with a ball and chain around his ankle. This movie gave me nightmares for a year and I'm super excited to maybe of finally finding it:nerd:

They just released it on blu this year -

People are giving it some great reviews on there, I've got to get this!

There were 4 Ozploitation box sets released here in Australia on the back of this as well, each one containing 6 movies, check out the images below -

I saw this documentary a while ago and it's really good and covers a lot of bases. I had no idea about those box sets that were released though, Volume 2 looks good.

Yeah the movie just hit DVD here because I saw it at Wal-Mart yesterday. I saw the trailer and the plot is interesting and there are some funny bits in it too.

Have to also mention:

Next of Kin (1982)

Dark Age (1987)

Strange Behavior (1981)

Dark Age is on Oz-ploitation volume 4, which I think is still available, and also by itself. Very nice giant crocodile on the rampage movie. Strange Behavior was released by Synapse and is available from the usual suspects. It's an horror movie (mad doctoring) set in the States and made in Australia, heh. Next of Kin seems to be out of print in Australia, but oddly enough, can be found on Amazon Instant Video and as a MOD from Amazon (it being the most obscure film in the list).
