I've been holding off on buying this for a while. I'll definitely be picking up this version. Thanks for the link.

Should get my review copy soon, surprised there is no original Mandarin / Cantonese track.

Cool, please let us know how it is once you've taken a look at it.

Interesting wording in that article, "launch their new Classic Kung Fu Collection." Hope that means there are more good films to follow!

Yeah, I went, was much good fun, print's real nice. The film is pretty crappy, imo; that night scene in the brightest daylight is about as retarded as any filmmaking ever got, but the acrobatics & whatnot are next level. In fact there's soooooo much of it, it's almost easy to take for granted the feats they are pulling off. Good stuff. Pimpshuei bar very good.

I got through watching the Terracotta release of this one recently, and thought the movie was a great time. It has to be said that for a 1984 Taiwanese kung-fu movie, the print is amazing and looks like it was filmed yesterday. Terracotta themselves said they didn't do any remastering, it was simply the print they were given, so whichever storage facility it came out of, here's hoping they get someone to have a rummage around it to see if there's any other kung-fu to be found!

The movie itself is everything you'd expect from an 80's Robert Tai choreographed flick starring Alexander Lo Rei. There's so many fights that you lose track, and everyone of them is filled with very crisp and fluid choreography, usually incorporating Tai's trademark acrobatics. In Tai's 80's output nobody takes steps during a fight scene, if you need to move even a short distance it has to be done either by multiple acrobatic somersaults and flips, or nothing at all.

The power hits are also entertaining to watch, as while during the fights themselves there's hardly any wire assistance at all for the moves being performed, for any recipients on the end of a high impact punch or kick, you can expect to see them flying several feet into the distance. It all adds to the movies entertainment value, which along with the classic dub, that contains a favorable amount of "but still" and "you must want do die" lines, 'Hero of Shaolin' is definitely a strong first release for the label. Here's hoping they keep them coming.
