Member thegoldenstate Posted September 19, 2014 Member Share Posted September 19, 2014 Meaning, swordplay, as opposed to KF... think Chor Yuen, but not Shaw Bros
Member Morgoth Bauglir Posted September 19, 2014 Member Share Posted September 19, 2014 SB does have a lot of the best ones like Bastard Swordsman and Secret Service of the Imperial Court. The Sword from Golden Harvest is my favorite. But outside of those 2 companies my pick is The Sword of Justice, edging out The Master and the Kid and Miraculous Flower. Member NoKUNGFUforYU Posted September 19, 2014 Member Share Posted September 19, 2014 Sorry! Deaf Mute is up there. Wrath of the Sword. We can't really consider Union films indie, but if you did, Ghost Hill.
Member Morgoth Bauglir Posted September 20, 2014 Member Share Posted September 20, 2014 I don't think I've ever seen anything from Union. Cathay is the only other major film company I can think of that did swordplays. Are there any others? Other than the ones made in the 50's and 60's? I haven't seen the 3 movies you mentioned. Well, I've seen Deat Mute, but it was so long ago all I remember is that it had bad picture quality.

Member the moose Posted September 20, 2014 Member Share Posted September 20, 2014 Some I really enjoyed: A touch of Zen, the fate of Lee Khan, Beach of the war gods, Everlasting chivalry. EDIT I just realized Beach of the war gods and The Fate of Lee Khan are Golden Harvest so can't be considered "Indie" as such.
Member Yang Wu Liang Posted September 22, 2014 Member Share Posted September 22, 2014 As GDYY says there are too many, here's a few of my favourites though.... Victim of an Assassin Butterfly Murders Elimination Pursuit King of Kings Love and Sword Strife for Mastery Flute Player of Wrath Middle Kingdoms Mark of Blood Sword of Justice Jade Dagger Ninja Veiling of Hidden Sword Matching Escort EDIT: As Iron Flag has just pointed out the OP has asked for our favourite so I'll say.... For action: Veiling of Hidden Sword Overall: Love and Sword (very atmospheric) or Matching Escort (For pure wackiness)

Moderator thekfc Posted September 22, 2014 Moderator Share Posted September 22, 2014 As previously stated there are too many to mention but since the OP did not exclude GH (only Shaws), I would throw in "Last Hurrah for Chivalry" & "Duel To the Death". Member iron flag Posted September 22, 2014 Member Share Posted September 22, 2014 The question is what is your favorite movie so while it may be too hard to pick one, "too many to mention" wouldn't really be an answer there are a lot I havent seen but I'll go with Strife for Mastery. Member NoKUNGFUforYU Posted September 22, 2014 Member Share Posted September 22, 2014 I really can't call Golden Harvest "indie" at all. There output looked a little cheap once the Bruce Lee money dipped, but they were and always have been a major studio. Shanghai Killers and Thunderbolt were two decent early GH efforts. Tien Peng is probably the indie champ, as well as Chiang Nan and Peter Kong. Anyway, so many movies, so little time.
