Hi everybody i was looking into buying the Once upon a time in China trilogy dvd set on amazon and the 36 chambers of shaolin on bluray from dragon dynasty. Are these good versions to get? I know there is a hong kong bluray set for once upon a time in china but right now i do not have the money to purchase it.

here they are http://www.amazon.com/The-36th-Chamber-Shaolin-Blu-ray/dp/B002ZPIBTU/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Some people were upset with the PQ of the blu and believed that the dvd looked better. I had no problem with it but then again I am watching it on an 24" screen. But, here is a review to check out:

Now, for the Once Upon a Time in China dvd set...

I have not heard anything good about the picture quality of that set. Here is a review:

I had the original Columbia Tristar dvd of OUATIC and thought it looked like crap. You might want to save up a little more money and get this:

That box set contains all 4 Jet Li Wong Fei Hung films from the series.

(I know you said that you do not have the money now to do it but it would probably be worth the wait. Not sure if the Columbia Tristar versions are cut or not. Cant remember.)

It'll cost you 24 cents plus shipping to get the triple pack on Amazon. I would say give it a try. I was happy with it and I don't remember it being cut. Sound and picture aren't great but it could be a lot worse. I don't know why but I sold it and I now have the 3 individual releases. If you want to go that route then maybe skip part 3. The first 2 movies are a lot better than the 3rd.

Hey guys thank you for the feedback. Based on what you guys told me I just picked up the Once upon a time in china trilogy (i will get the Blurays when i get the expendable cash lol) I also picked up the 36 chambers of shaolin and i picked up this double pack of police story 1 and 2.

I own the invidual DVD of OUATIC released by Columbia (not the set) and it's uncut in Cantonese with subs in widescreen which is good enough for me. It also features a cut English version which I thought was very interesting to watch. I would agree that the picture and audio quality isn't very good but it should suit those who just want to watch the movie.

I have the Dragon Dynasty DVD of 36th Chamber and it's a great release. A lot of cool special features and great video quality. Definitely recommended though I don't own the blu-ray.

The Police Story double feature is great too. It has some cool special features but the video quality isn't very good for a blu-ray. The 2.0 audio tracks are also down-mixs of a 5.1 track which is a bit distracting but I'm not picky. I'd probably just recomend picking up the DVD. PS 2 is a 2 hour uncut version.

Hope that helps!
