Member AlbertV Posted July 2, 2014 Member Share Posted July 2, 2014 Has anyone gotten to see the 2001 film THE SHAFT, originally released as simply DOWN? It's an English-language, New York City-set remake of the Dutch horror film THE LIFT. Both were directed by Dick Maas. Back in 2009, shortly after beginning my writing for here, I did a comparison review of both the original and the remake on my now non-MA film blog: http://albertvfilm.blogspot.com/2009/06/review-lift-1983-vs-shaft-2001.html Of course, with DOWN/THE SHAFT being released in 2001, they added a theme of terrorism.as well as a few key differences in characters and well, the famous "guard decapitation scene" (original was a mannequin head, the remake was CGI) as well as some over the top deaths in the remake which I thought fared ridiculous. Plus any Hellboy fans will know/want to know that Ron Perlman is in the film as the boss of the elevator company in this one The US trailer to the original 1983 film THE LIFT mMgzBKTQFLs The trailer to the remake THE SHAFT (aka DOWN) majkjgWDWTE Both films are definite time wasters...fun time wasters that is
