What about WISE GUYS NEVER DIE and MY WIFE IS A GAMBLING MAESTRO from 2006 and 2008?

It is official...FROM VEGAS TO MACAU II will begin production shortly. Shawn Yue has been confirmed to replace Nicholas Tse, but Chow Yun-Fat, Carina Lau, and Kimmy Tong are set to reprise their roles. Nick Cheung will play the new nemesis of the film.

Not to mention, Yun Fat being on the blacklist and WJ being the good boy. Seems strange esp. the timing. Also Yun Fat looking so slim after all of those years of not being that. Must be on the Andy Lau diet.

Chow Yun Fat actually looks pretty frail on those pics.

I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned when 'From Vegas to Macau' was released, while I wouldn't go so far as to say he looked frail, it's definitely the most slim he's ever been.

Cantonese trailer, haven't seen the first one yet, but this looks surprisingly good! over-the-top action galore! I'll probably pick them both up when this hits dvd

I enjoyed the first one, and was glad to hear it was getting a sequel. That trailer looked promising! :nerd: Bring on more Chow Yun-Fat in "classic mode" (even in a goofy Wong Jing film CYF is classic).

The first one was absolutely awful the only highlight was the last 2 minutes.

But this one actually looks reasonably entertaining and seeing Chow in full Muay Thai garb should be worth the price of admission.

Can't help but concur with this verdict... but the last scene had me in stitches though! Saw the film first on the Mainland in Putonghua and the very young Lunar New Year audience responded rather enthusiastically from the get-go to what I thought were rather naff and oftentimes also decidedly un-funny slapstick routines (even by Wong Jing standards). Still, it speaks volumes that FROM VEGAS TO MACAU later shaped up to be the schlockmaster's biggest-grossing film in his three-and-a-half decades long career! Thought maybe it comes across better in Cantonese - I mean, you gotta hear Chapman To in his throaty Canto, right? - and went to see it again in HK a couple of weeks later, but still the film didn't impove on me. I also can't remember hearing anything but a few faint giggles in the theatre...

I think sans Stephen Chow Wong Jing's gambling movies weren't great shakes any more, but, say, CONMAN IN TOKYO was still a hell of a lot funnier (and fight-heavier) than this. Biggest disappointment for me was Nick Tse's lacklustre acting and fighting performance.

Still, how many new CYF films can we watch nowadays, so I suppose this coming Lunar New Year I'ma sit through the sequel...

The Man from Macau II, aka From Vegas to Macau II, took second place at the China box office during the Lunar New Year behind Jackie Chan's new film Dragon Blade.

Okay, so in Hong Kong, the film is called "From Vegas to Macau", but in Mainland China, it is called "The Man from Macau"...now I get it...I was so confused all this time...phew!!!

Went to see it last night, unfortunately the film plays without English subs in China, so I couldn’t grasp more than rudiments of its madcap plot. Incidentally, FROM VEGAS TO MACAU 2 was the only one of this year’s Chinese New Year’s blockbusters that played without English subs… Jackie Chan’s DRAGON BLADE, WOLF TOTEM (a fairly engaging adaption of Jiang Rong’s fantastic novel from a decade ago) and the truly abysmal fantasy wuxia ZHONG KUI – SNOW GIRL AND THE DARK CRYSTAL all made it into Chinese theatres with English subs - unfortunately this one didn’t.

What I can say is that FROM VEGAS TO MACAU 2 looks better than the first part, partially because of the great Thai locations, but mainly because most of the action set pieces, as loopy and CGI-laden as they are, do not fail to entertain and even the film’s 3 D enhancement is actually quite passable. You get senseless shoot-outs and CG explosions galore, a body-count in the hundreds, speed boat races through canals, crocodile attacks, a Muay Thai ring fight between Ken Lo and… believe it or not, Chow Yun Fat (and that’s a gas, trust me!), a butler robot with machine gun arms and, once again, CYF mowing down opponents with poker cards as if they were flying guillotines… and the silliness doesn’t stop there!

The idiocy of the final showdown on board of a flying jumbo jet super casino is hard to stomach, but I will admit that CYF and, to a lesser degree, Nick Cheung and the ever-wonderful Carina Lau make even the wackiest Wong Jing brew watchable. And, just like in part 1, HK film buffs with an undying love for Chow’s iconic Ko Chun character are once again guaranteed to laugh their butts off in the last two minutes!
