After the letdown of the prequel films (part 3 was ok), I have high hopes that the last 3 parts of this space saga will resurrect the franchise to its glory days. I saw the very first SW film the first week it came out back in '77. It was unlike anything I had seen before. I look forward to December 18, 2015 in which I can share the same experience with my children.

Does anyone else have a hard time believing that they'll have this movie ready to go in just a year and a half? That doesn't really seem to give them much time...

Yup, sounds pretty short - unless filming has secretly begun ages ago and we merely get news that aren't remotely close to being up-to-date.

Do you think that Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill will have major roles or just guest appearances.

I doubt it, I think it's supposed to be set several years after the events of the original trilogy.

They've actually said that Han Solo has a - and I quote - "massive role."

Interesting, then one would assume the other two may also.

Had read completely otherwise somewhere else... I really need to keep up.

Maybe I'm mistaking, but I think Mark Hamill has retired - or was it only a voice-over retirement ? He's been the Joker in various media since 1992 (Batman TAS, The New Batman Adventures, Superman TAS, Batman Beyond: Return Of The Joker, Justice League/Justice League Unlimited, the Arkham video games...) and I heard he considered retiring.

Here it is:

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Official Teaser

erLk59H86ww#t=21

Below from Forbes.

I was all in favor of Walt Disney DIS +0.88% premiering the much-anticipated teaser trailer in theaters this weekend as a kind of specialized theatrical event, hearkening back to the notion that trailers for the biggest movies ought to be seen first in theaters. On the other hand, at the time I was writing my piece about it a few days ago, I was under the impression that the trailer launch would occur in around 100 theaters. The end theater count was closer to thirty, and I can’t pretend not to have sympathy for those who wanted to see this thing as soon as possible but didn’t live anywhere near a theater that was showing it. I don’t know if Walt Disney’s decision to debut the teaser trailer online simultaneously with its theatrical premiere was always part of the plan or a result of online disapproval or whether Disney was concerned about a bootleg copy dropping well before Friday morning. But whatever the case, the teaser trailer to Star Wars: The Force Awakens is here, debuting online courtesy of Apple AAPL -0.03% iTunes simultaneously with its limited theatrical bow this weekend.

This is indeed a bare-bones teaser trailer, more of an “announcement” trailer that anything else. I won’t do a blow-by-blow description of the teaser as I’m sure many of you came here to watch the trailer and instead were tricked into reading this essay. An “announcement” trailer is just that, an acknowledgement that the movie is coming so you better get ready. All it does is announce itself with a few choice images and iconic music. All we get are some random images of new cast members, with next to no real context, as well as iconic music and one fan-pleasing scene to top it off. I presume we’ll get a look at 30-years-later versions of Han Solo, Princess Lea, and Luke Skywalker next time out. That’s all you get this time around. That’s all it needs to do.

There is a part of me that wishes I was “forced” to trek out to a theater to see the teaser and then merely hold off on a standard trailer drop essay until whenever the teaser went online. But that I now don’t have to do that, I must concede that I really cannot justify either ditching my wife/kids on a Friday morning to drive about an hour each way to Century City or dragging them along with me and finding an activity of note on Black Friday just so I can see an 88-second trailer “the way it was meant to be seen.” There are countless fans, young and old, who are happy to be able to see this trailer at the same time as those in theaters this weekend without the inconvenience of a long trip or having to squint through a bootleg. I sometimes forget when I write about the experience of theatrical movie-going that I doing so from a place of great privilege.

I live in an area, just outside of Hollywood and the like, with countless options for high quality theatrical movie going. I have the ability to drive to Hollywood and see the big movies right when they come out at some of the best theaters in America, and that’s presuming I haven’t seen said movies at press screenings days or weeks ahead of the masses in what usually is a pretty pristine presentation and audience environment. For me, going to see a movie in a theater means a high quality audio/visual presentation with a mostly engaged and/or silent crowd. I must admit that my experiences do not represent “going to the movies” for any number of you, and perhaps I should be more sympathetic.

When I argue that theatrical trailers should premiere in movie theaters, part of that argument indeed comes from the fact that movie trailers just play better in a theater. But I must concede that I am perhaps a young man who is only growing older who is desperately clinging to the traditions of my past that made me fall in love with the art of cinema in the first place. When I get as upset as I did about the plans to premiere Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend on IMAX and Netflix NFLX -0.74% simultaneously, I must concede it is partially about the fact that I will have to force myself to see the film “the right way” and wish that the choice was taken out of my hands.

But for those who don’t have quality multiplex options, for those who don’t necessarily have the time to get out to a theater in a situation where you cannot even be assured of a quality cinematic experience, for those whose home theater set-ups rival or exceed the local multiplex, there is only so much “disdain” that I can have for your decision to “go to the movies” in the comfort of your own home. Instead I will try to choose empathy more often. It’s not 1994 anymore, in ways both good and bad.

I still argue that we have lost a little something absent the thrill of seeing a new Star Wars trailer for the first time on a giant movies screen. I argue that we have lost something in the saturation-level marketing for the so-called event movies where basically providing a blow-by-blow account of what will happen in the upcoming installment as well as who will or won’t show up in the next three sequels is marketing status-quo. And we have desperately lost something in having to admit that theatrical movie-going has become too expensive, too inconvenient, and too inconsistent in terms of quality and audience behavior to make it automatically the right call for those who don’t have to see movies as soon as they are available. It breaks my heart to admit that.

But in that trade-off we also have DVD and VOD which allows movie fans all over the world instant access to pretty much every movie, great-and-small, at the click of a button in a way I couldn’t have imagined when I was in high school. I could make up a “best of 2014″ list entirely from movies that I watched on Video On Demand prior to their theatrical releases, which is both a wonderful and terrifying thing to realize. Anyway, Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer is pretty terrific in a minimalist way. Rather than complain about the mode of delivery, I will instead choose to merely be happy that everyone who wanted to see it this morning got to do so.

The Raid 2 stars have a role in Star Wars:

It would appear that the force is set to awaken in Indonesia.

Though there has been no comment whatsoever from any of the performers or their representation, Twitch has learned that a key trio of performers from Gareth Evans' The Raid and The Raid 2 - leading man Iko Uwais, Mad Dog / Prakoso actor Yayan Ruhian and The Raid 2 finale fighter Cecep Arif Rahman, credited simply as The Assassin - will all appear in JJ Abrams' upcoming Star Wars: Episode 7 - The Force Awakens.

We have no word yet on what their characters may be, which side of the good guy / bad guy line they fall upon or whether any will survive through until the subsequent pictures but think on this: After the underwhelming prequel trilogy with its massive over-reliance on CGI trickery not only has Abrams shown a strong preference for practical effects but has now also cast a trio of highly skilled martial artists who have already demonstrated their skills with blades, batons, etc in a world where super powered warriors fight with blades, batons, etc.

Yes, please?

Well, Raid stars or no Raid stars, let's hope it's a good movie.

The greatest sci-fi trilogy of all time wasn't great because of its fight choreography. :) That's like saying "We're going to get John Woo to direct action scenes for The Godfather IV"....

But i have faith in JJ!

Why is Hollywood taking all the Indonesian talents? A watered down Hollywood version of Silat?
