Vampire-yakuza film from Miike.

“Take a hike, boring Japanese productions! Against everyone’s wishes, I’m going back to my roots on this one, and plan to go on a real rampage with Yakuza Apocalypse. I hope my cast and crew, and even myself make it out alive,” said the controversial director.

Filming begins this week. Set for release in 2015.

Right on! Great news. Go crazy Miike-san.

My son just borrowed ICHI THE KILLER. I wished him luck. :xd: Soon his last vestige of innocence will be crushed. Poor guy.

I'm down for some unhinged Miike again, I may not like all of his movies but I admire how he does things his way!

Love the look but I'm not sure how I feel about "mad dog" with yakuza tats.. Just doesn't fit him IMO.

There was a promo video on youtube a few weeks ago. It's been deleted now since it was there without Nikkatsu's permission, plus the quality was crappy. In any case, it had a totally different tone from the JP teaser; a lot darker and more violent. Of course it's hard to say what the film will be like, but I wouldn't be suprised if that Japanese teaser was mispresenting the film as something more playful that it really is. Happens a lot in Japan where most trailers try to make the film looks happy-go-lucky crowdpleaser to appeal to the mainstream crowd, even when the movie was a violent genre pic or an arthouse drama. I've actually missed many good films because of shitty trailers...

Anyway, here's a few words about the film by someone who has seen it:

http://oavian.blogspot.jp/2015/03/long-time-no-whatever.html

"And as a film, it’s probably the best movie I’ve ever worked on. No matter how many times I watch it I find something new, or I just enjoy its great performances and bizarre situations..."

"...I was over at Imagica the other day and finally got to see the film on a big screen. It looked even better. The movie has a film-ish quality to its look, giving it a kind of '70s sheen."

"Takashi Miike's martial arts extravaganza is foolish, transgressive, and just about the best fun you can have in a cinema"

"... two hours of this sort of random nonsense is at least half an hour too much—but it’s Miike at his most gleefully lunatic, and that’s always a hoot and a half."

"...this mess of a film will have its fans, but I can’t say that it will make much headway outside the Miike hardcore. A very acquired taste."
