Member hkhero Posted March 19, 2014 Member Share Posted March 19, 2014 Hello, I am looking for a complete set of the 1984 series 'The Master.' I saw a two-disc bootleg DVD set on iOffer but wanted to check with the experts here to see if there was something better available. I prefer not to purchase any bootlegs, but I want the series and will take what's out there as a last resort. Thank you!
Member AlbertV Posted March 21, 2014 Member Share Posted March 21, 2014 Mill Creek Entertainment had released the first two episodes as part of martial arts film sets, but I would love to see them release the whole series on DVD properly
Member hkhero Posted March 21, 2014 Author Member Share Posted March 21, 2014 I got so frustrated I called CBS to get the licensing rights, the show is entirely still copyrighted. Working on getting rights to make a DVD myself. If I can't get it, I will make it!
Member Chinatown Kid Posted March 22, 2014 Member Share Posted March 22, 2014 CBS? I thought the show came on NBC back in the day when I originally watched it as a teenager. Remember the episode that had the young Kane Kosugi in it showing his skills with the nunchucks, and his dad Sho made a great villain as Okasa. Member hkhero Posted March 24, 2014 Author Member Share Posted March 24, 2014 I thought so too, but I called NBC and told me CBS held the rights. Weird...

I know there were some “semi” legitimate VHS releases of an episode featuring Demi Moore. Even that was questionable. (It was put by one of those dopey “Goodtimes”-type labels. Member Beggar So Posted April 7, 2014 Member Share Posted April 7, 2014 Are the titles being sold on that site actual DVDs or are they burned DVD-R copies?
Member hkhero Posted May 29, 2014 Author Member Share Posted May 29, 2014 Update - I purchased the Bonzai DVDs, look like they came from tapes but they look pretty good. Not perfect, but certainly watchable.
Member chanbara Posted July 13, 2015 Member Share Posted July 13, 2015 The series has been released on proper DVD in Germany: amazon (Germany) http://www.amazon.de/Ninja-Meister-4-DVDs-Lee-Cleef/dp/B00PNILCLU/ref=sr_1_4?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1436798905&sr=1-4&keywords=sho+kosugi amazon (UK) http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00S6PAKG0?keywords=sho%20kosugi&qid=1436798853&ref_=sr_1_9&s=dvd&sr=1-9 Picture quality is decent if a bit dark. I'd say its about on par with the Trans World Entertainment VHS tapes. The main difference between these and those VHS prints (used on all the bootleg DVDRs) is that the prints came from the original TV prints and include all of the title bumper screens, which is cool for completists.
