Please post or mention any particular piece of music from a Shaw movie that you like for whatever reason.

I will post a snippet of music from a Shaw movie when I run into some that I really like.

I hope people will comment as to whether they like it or not, style wise or whatever.

The 1st one....

I first heard this on the movie 'The Golden Sword' but I had to use it from the movie

'Trilogy of Swordsmanship'.

I think both are good movies - I saw 'Trilogy...' back in the beginning of my Shaw experience & I dismissed it until it came time to watch it again & it did not disappoint the second time. Great cast, great movie - or three.

The Golden Sword is something I have grown to like because the whole late '60's to '72 period is very similar with the outdoor sets that have mountain & little else and if not, then filmed at the bay with the islands.

In any case, I prefer the indoor soundstage sets, especially if they are the intricate Chor Yuen type sets. Whatever the hell I am trying to say - I liked The Golden Sword, but only once I came around to accepting the old Shaw for what they were & loving them for the casts as well as the story.

Those are the 2 movies I heard this piece in.

This might be my favorite piece of Shaw music. (Is this from De Wolfe Company?)

I like score in "golden swallow". If I remember correct, same was also used in "twin blades of doom". No idea who did it:ooh::ooh:

I like so much of the incidental music from Venoms films, heavily nostalgic. Especially the stuff that gets reused in many films. Off the top of my head Masked Avengers (my fav Venoms film) has great examples of this suspenseful incidental music.

For theme tunes, this one is quite heavy:

In 12 gold medallions, when Chin Ping is pursued in the forest, the music is the same as the one which was used in Man of iron.

Always liked the heavy descending piano chords that are Wang Lung Wei's theme in Grandmaster of Death / New Shaolin Boxers.

I couldn't find the part you meant What is the minute mark it starts at?

There is cool stuff in the Venoms flicks. Usually they are small pieces though.

I can't think of any Venoms music now - I do like the creepy piece that plays during the menu of 'The Five Venoms'.

I looked for this as well. Do you know the minute mark it starts at.

(True PW's don't like multi-quote & I am sorry I used it!)

You are right Eastern Evil Chang Cheh experimented big time with the choice of scores in Shaolin Martial Arts which deeply enhanced the viewing pleasure of such a classic movie.

There is also a medley of music I like in this trailer.

That is a good find, Mr. Choi - I like The Deadly Duo musicas well - It could be the music played at a concert as an intro before a band goes on. Very good piece!

Hi,

In 12 Gold Medallions, the scene I'm talking about begins at 36mn37 and the music form Man of iron must begin a few sceonds later (it still plays at 36mn46).

Hope this helps.

I know the piece you are talking about now and it is very nice, It is not as long here as other places I've heard it. If I come across a bigger version I'll put it here.

can anyone recall this piece in another Shaw movie?

It is real nice and I'd rather find it with out the voiceover & maybe a longer cut.

To Eastern Evil: It plays briefly at the end of Kid With the Golden Arm - though not without dialogue ("you escort the gold.. it isn't far now... I'm gonna get drunk.")

I think the 8 diagram pole fighter's theme was pretty good.

That's one of my favorite pieces of soundtrack:

The 5 Shaolin Masters piece is really good, forgot about that for a minute - is it in 8 Diagrams also?

I have seen that and of course it is a great movie, but I don't recall if that piece is in there.

Probably a keyboard made that, wonder what instrument it was meant to emulate?
