Dont know if there's already a thread about this but I was curious what movies you want to see uncut, remastered, widescreen, etc. I'm going to say The Heroes with Ti Lung.

Practically all of them? The very few films that were ever released in optimal conditions (original language, proper aspect ratio) are mostly out of print.

A few off the top of my head I'd love to see (not strictly kung-fu):

The Killer - Chor Yuen's noir-basher extraordinaire.

Escort Over Tiger Hill - Supposedly Cathay's greatest wuxia pian, the recent "remastered" release is downright offensive.

One Armed-Boxer - The Spanish release is as good as it's ever looked... now if only someone could put Mandarin audio and English subs on it.

Deaf and Mute Heroine - Wu Ma's pastiche/subversion of Chang Cheh swordplay is almost as good as the master. Also best available in German and Spanish dubs.

The 18 Bronzemen - Because come the &*^* on already!

The Mystery of Chess-Boxing- For *$*$% sake!

Bank-Busters - Proto-New Wave heist film that was buried by Shaw for being too bleak, too political and too uncommercial.

Sword of Justice and A Massacre Survivor - God bless the collector's for reviving these films... now if we could only expose them to the rest of the world.

Man on the Brink and The Club - Landmark New Wave crime classics pointing the way toward Heroic Bloodshed.

Long Arm of the Law - You can get a "blu ray" from Hong Kong, but someone needs to introduce this masterpiece to the US.

True, Kung Fu is probably the most neglected genre of all.. Most of the Shaw Bros. movies are out (some with bad Audio, some cut but at least good picture & widescreen) and there have been a lot of Spaghetti Westerns released in good quality the past few years, there are lots of good upcoming releases of 60s,70s & 80s horror coming up from companies like Shout Factory so its not impossible that we'd eventually see more old school kung fu remastered. At least I like to think so. :)

In germany lots of good releases, expensive tho. But I will rather pick 1 decent widescreen movie than compilation of full screen movies with sub-par quality.

Yes, most of the SW DVDs I'm thinking of are from Germany but we all have region free DVD players right? We get MA movies from Hong Kong..Prices vary. Some are not expensive at all. Lately there have been some very expensive releases though.

I thought the Celestial Avenging Eagle was uncut except for 30 seconds from the final fight.. Is there more missing?

It's more like a minute, and that's a substantial amount to be missing from a climactic battle.

I second Pedicab Driver. I watched it last week and it was a pretty good movie.

The Blade (Tsui Hark, Vincent Zhao)

Reign of Assassins

Mr Vampire (cleaned up and updated 1080p release would be nice)

Made in Hong Kong

Kenshin 1 (live action)

Too many to mention.

I think it would be great for many old skool kung fu movies that were neither Shaws or Golden Harvest productions to have a polished up remastered release, we in the uk were promised that with secret rivals 1 and 2, but soulblade never delivered on their promise. Especially with secret rivals 2 where the picture was so bad in places it was green and you could make out blotches of mould, not to mention all the black dust splotches. It was as bad as the worst vengeance video transfers. I guess When the original source tape reel is so badly damaged and poorly looked after over years (as with many many old skool movies of this era that weren't shaw bros or GH) then it is an epic mission trying to restore and remaster them. But soulblade didn't even make any attempt on that secret rivals 2, even though it states on the case that it is "Digitally remastered". I was watching the 1976 Iron Monkey on vengeance video DVD just the other day with atrocious quality picture and with the same problems as secret rivals 2 and then some. I was thinking how amazing the shaws-esque movie Iron Monkey would be if the picture was of the quality of one of those IVL shaw releases, It would have looked amazing. -Rant Over.

Man on the Brink and The Club - Landmark New Wave crime classics pointing the way toward Heroic Bloodshed.

I picked up Man on the brink from Chinatown Manchester on VCD about 9 years ago now. I did not know what the movie was but thought the cover looked good. Glad I got it, it's a great film. It was made in 1981 or 82 by new wave director Alex Cheung who came on the scene around the same time as Tsui Hark, Kirk wong. I like the way it explores the main character's transformation as he experiences life on both sides of the law (an undercover cop) in a way that was realistic and powerful, which made the ending of the movie all the more tragic. And this was about 5 years before Ringo Lam's similer formula - City on fire.

I'm very happy with Tokyo Shock dvd of Ten Tigers of Kwangtung, the picture is quite amazing for a 35 years old movie and I don't really mind 1 minute or 2 missing, especially if those are some boring dialog.

There are so many films that I would love to see remastered, uncut, etc. I think that it is a lost dream at this point.

Fox released a lot of the FS catalog back in the day. However, Mr Vampire, Warriors Two and Dreadnaught have not yet seen an blu release. Though, they would more than likely be upscaled, at least they should look a little better than their previous release. But, honestly, someone with deep pockets that does not care about making their money back needs to redo the FS catalog.

Pedicab Driver

Fortune Star catalog remastered

Shaw Brothers uncut

The Bride with White Hair.

Ninja in the Deadly Trap

He Has Nothing But Kung Fu

etc...

Tai Seng setup a US distribution arm and that was when I bought my Bride with White Hair 1 and 2. I was sort of surprised that they even got Ronny Yu to do a commentary track. A proper Blu-ray release of 1 would be nice.

It seems to me that I read on the now disappeared site shawborthersreloaded that there was probably bootleg vhs of Tiger boy somewhere...

If only it was true and this movie could be found !!!

Any language would do for me since I could be able to watch the movie !!

Other titles I'd like to see :

The bandits

Imperial tomb raiders

The boxers (Shaw Brothers)

Every man for himself

The swallow (Li Lihua or Linda Lin Dai, I don't remember ; it's a spy movie)

The blank indictment

A dark noctilucous ball

An executioner's story 1968

Hellfighers

Tiger and cliff

The youthful delinquents

Flying over grass

Blood of the leopard

and so on, and so on...

More than a minute or 2 is missing.

Scenes were crapped as well as re-shots and the likes.

We have a thread about it a few years back.

I watched it anyway. I'm a hardcore nunchaku fan. LOL It did look horrendous though.

But yes, can we please see a legit release of this? I'd even be happy to see it on VCD at this point. Anybody have any info on a good quality version of this movie?

Chinatown Kid

All of Billy Chong's Eternal films need to be remastered: Sun Dragon, Kung Fu Executioner, Super Power, Jade Claw and Kung Fu Zombie.

As for Showdown at the Cottonmill, I would love to have a better print but I thought the print was so badly damaged that Rarescope cleaned it up the best they could but that was as good as it ever was gonna look. Is there still hope of a better print?
