Member DrNgor Posted February 3, 2022 Member Share Posted February 3, 2022 The Assassins (2012) - Historical costume drama about Cao Cao (the main villain from the Red Cliff movies) with a couple of perfunctory battle scenes (mainly stabbing and jabbing with spears and swords, plus some wire-enhanced grappling hook stuff) to draw in general audiences and Chinese action cinema fans. The film is mainly for those interested in Chinese history, as Cao Cao (Chow Yun Fat) deals with assassination attempts from numerous entities inside the very kingdom he supported (China had divided into several kingdoms at the time), all of whom are supported by the weak and easily-manipulated emperor. In the end, not that great or exciting or intriguing. This would make an appropriate, if underwhelming entry in a movie marathon starting with the two Red Cliff movies, moving on to Donnie Yen's The Lost Bladesman, and then ending with this.
