WWE and 20th Century Fox are going ahead with a fourth installment to the action franchise. I guess the third film did well enough with fans because Mike "The Miz" Mizanin will reprise his role of Marine Sgt. Jake Carter in the next film, which is due to begin shooting soon and a WWE diva, Summer Rae (the dancing partner of Fandango) will be in the film as well.

Personally, I loved the 3rd film much better than the 2nd film (with Ted DiBiase Jr)

Dark Horizons recently heard of the news.

Fuck! The third MARINE was cheap action crap with lousy action and a lame, unlikable protagonist, why would they make a sequel? I'd rather watch one of part two or the original.

I wasn't a fan of the series. Why do they keep making them? They make them cheap and apparently make enough money to keep making sequels. Like all the other direct to video stuff. I was surprised they came out with another Child's Play movie last yr with Chucky. Decidedly low budget. Lowest budget out of all of them it seems but it did have one interesting thing going for it.

WWE has been trying to get into movies more for years. Some of the The Rock's early movies were tied to the WWE so they made money there and hoped that maybe some of their other wrestlers could make them money. Possibly even create and entire movie/tv division using their roster of wrestlers.

WWE also has their own production company for films now, but they work with Fox as a distributor these days. They did have Samuel Goldwyn Films as a distributor for titles like Knucklehead (with Paul "Big Show" Wight) and The Chaperone (with Triple H). But they renewed a deal with Fox, who distribute the Marine series and recently, 12 Rounds: Reloaded with Randy Orton. They also did Ryuhei Kitamura's No One Lives, with Luke Evans.

They have some new movies coming out:

See No Evil 2, which brings Glenn "Kane" Jacobs back as Jacob Goodnight, this time terrorizing medical school students after he escapes from the morgue.

Leprechaun: Origins, a dark-edged remake of the 1992 horror film starring Dylan "Hornswoggle" Postl in the titular role.

Jingle All the Way 2, starring Larry the Cable Guy and WWE star Santino Marella, which begins shooting in the spring.

and of course, The Marine 4.

An update: Alan B. McElroy, who wrote the TEKKEN live action movie and the first MARINE movie, wrote the screenplay. The film is due for a March 2015 release.

Last night on Raw, during a promo sketch, the Miz announced that the film is set for release in April. The synopsis has been revealed:

Sgt. Jake Carter (reprised by Mike Mizanin) is assigned to protect a "high-value package," a beautiful whistleblower trying to expose a corrupt military defense contractor. But a heavily armed team of mercenaries has been hired to kill her, along with anyone who gets in their way, and it's going to take a fearless one-man fighting machine to stop them.

Is this some sort of a comedy news report? Those aren't real movies right?

The Marine is the worst movie I've ever seen in the theater. Even worse than Double Team and Transformers. Who's watching the sequels? Wrestling fans?

Yes they are I'm afraid. Jingle All the Way 2, See No Evil 2, Leprechaun:Origins already came out.

The Marine 4 comes out in April. Slated to come out later this year: Lockdown, Vendetta, and The Condemned 2: Desert Prey

They are almost all straight to DVD films, except See No Evil 2 and Leprechaun, which were given limited theatrical releases.

And yes...wrestling fans are the demographics.

That's exactly what happened. Here's the list of recent WWE stars and their films since Dwayne Johnson and Steve Austin left WWE and became action actors in their own right:

John Cena

The Marine, 12 Rounds, Legendary

Paul Leveseque (Triple H)

The Chaperone, Inside Out (of course his film debut was Blade: Trinity)

Paul Wight (The Big Show)

Knucklehead, Vendetta (he was also in The Waterboy)

Randy Orton

12 Rounds 2: Reloaded, The Condemned 2: Desert Prey

Glenn Jacobs (Kane)

See No Evil 1 & 2

George Murdoch (Brodus Clay - no longer in WWE)

No One Lives

Dylan Postl (Hornswoggle)

Leprechaun: Origins

Ken Anderson (Mr. Kennedy - now in TNA)

Behind Enemy Lines 3: Colombia

Ted DiBiase Jr. (no longer in WWE)

The Marine 2

Mike Mizanin (The Miz)

The Marine 3 & 4

Jonathan Good (Dean Ambrose)

Lockdown

David Otunga

The Call

Adam Copeland (Edge - retired)

Breaking the Rules

Don't forget...Kurt Angle, Kevin Nash, and Sid Vicious have made films as well. Of course the big guys Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper have done their share of films.

So WWE has set up their own production company and have worked with Fox, Lionsgate, and Samuel Goldwyn Films to release these films for the wrestling fans mainly but also know people like action and horror.
