Pre-production has started on a Jean-Claude Van Damme action flick titled Pound of Flesh. The film will re-team Van Damme with Ernie Barbarash (Favela), the director behind 2011′s Assassination Games and 2012′s 6 Bullets.

The film's plot sounds very much like Park Chan-wook’s 2002 thriller, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance.

I thought Six Bullets was more entertaining than Assassination Games. But AG is a better looking, better made film. (if that makes any sense).

Looks awesome! I loved the trailer, I like that gritty grimy feel it has to it. I'm assuming this is a straight to dvd movie? Is their any estimate of release date?

Best trailer I've seen for a while, this looks to be mean and gritty, which is excactly what we need more of in today's action movie climate!

On a sidenote I'm so glad the trailer said 'Stolen', and not 'Taken', or else it might have risked giving Olivier Megaton an idea for 'Taken 4'. Relief all round.

This is probably the first time in a LONG time that I've been excited about a new JCVD film. Looks like John Salvitti has done it again!

MPM74, is this the same movie as "Pounding the flesh?" Get it?

Porn title game, eh? Now about Ass-ass-in-nation Games? :)

I'm not sure what to think of the movie. Judging from the trailer, it looks like a lot of the action takes place in the nightclub (they spliced it up so many times in the trailer)... so that may mean there's not much action? But time will tell.

I'm usually not one all about "give me a lot of action," but I've been wanting it in a JCVD flick....

Here's the first "real" trailer re-edited with some extra footage not seen in the first "leaked" teaser released a few days ago. The legitimacy of this new trailer probably explains why the latter has been pulled offline several times. Frankly, i liked the leaked one more.

Thanks for sharing this, I think shorter trailers are better. A lot of modern trailers for big blockbusters give away a lot of the best bits of the film.

Thanks, mpm74. That's a brutally honest review. Honestly I mean to steer clear of this, but if it's Shahlavi's last picture, I'll view it merely for his performance. And that makes me wonder why he was always relegated to roles as the villain. I mean, why couldn't he have starred in JCVD's role in this? I'd bet it would be a much more entertaining action movie if that had been the case.

To me, there are two kinds of choppy editing. One is fast edits with the rhythm of all takes put together being abrupt and disjointed to the point that it's a useless watch altogether (many Hollywood comic book adaptations or action movies made in late 1990s and early to mid 2000s). Another is fast editing but you can still know what goes on by just letting your imagination work the details out instead of anticipating each take of a whole sequence (Legend of the Wolf).

At this point, it's still too early to know anything. It better fit the latter editing description.

My guess is Darren just isn't profitable enough to headline a movie. It's the sad truth.

Judging from that review, it's worth seeing POF for Darren Shahlavi alone, so you're good there.

I was looking forward to this one but I'm not so keen after reading the review. I'm not surprised about the doubling been so obvious. The last Van Damme film I watched was Enemies Closer on T.V. Most of the movie was filmed in the dark including Van Damme's action scenes. I'm sure they did this to make it less obvious he was being doubled. Saying that the film was worth watching just see JCVD play the crazy over the top villain.

Ill still give Pound Of Flesh a chance when it arrives in the U.K on DVD.

For those in L.A., 'Pound of Flesh' will be having its premiere this Thursday 7th May at The Grove Pacific Theatre, 189 The Grove Drive. Van Damme on the big screen, it's been a while!

I got to see the film this morning thanks to the PR reps for the film, who sent me a screener. The review is on the main page...out of the Van Damme-Barbarash films, this is the best of their collaborations IMO.

Drawing comparisons to 'Assassination Games' and 'Six Bullets' isn't really setting the benchmark very high in terms of quality. I'd rather know how the movie compares to more recently released titles like 'Skin Trade' & 'Falcon Rising'?

I second that. Assassination Games was decent enough, I thought, but Six Bullets was pretty meh. Of course, odds are I'll end up watching this whenever it hits Netflix.
