Member TheKungFuRobber Posted November 26, 2013 Member Share Posted November 26, 2013 Many people say Rocky has the first training montage, but anyone who has seen many H.K flicks will know that it was not the first film to include a training montage (e.g. Hand of Death was released a few months before Rocky and had a training montage too). What film do you think had the first training montage? "This garage is off limits, and I don't wan't you going near it!"
Member TibetanWhiteCrane Posted November 26, 2013 Member Share Posted November 26, 2013 Some of the early Jimmy Wang Yu flicks had em'.... Chinese and One Armed boxer respectively. I even think One Armed swordsman had one, though it's been a while. And don't tell me that not one of the 70+ B&W Wong Fei Hung flicks didn't have something resembling a training montage of some sort.
Member NoKUNGFUforYU Posted November 27, 2013 Member Share Posted November 27, 2013 Stallone was and is pretty tight with Jackie Chan, I'm sure he watched a ton of kung fu movies as well. Shaolin Martial arts with Fu Sheng came out a few years before rocky, and there was tons of training scenes in that, as well as Prodigal Boxer with Meng Fei.
