Yeah they should jump on the Blu-ray market for their exclusives. Most of the movies that they have streaming are available on dvd/blu anyway and people still buy their services. I doubt releasing TNCFU on Blu-ray would lose them any customers, in fact it’d likely earn them more money

If the action is centered around people fighting especially 1 going up against 20 foes or 1 against 2 or whatever, it's a martial arts flick. If this movie came out in the 70s/80s/90s it would be under martial arts genre. If I own a video store, which category would you put this under? Action or Martial Arts? If you're using any sort of objects as your choice of weaponry, it's a martial arts flick. If a fight scene begins in a stance? It's a martial arts flick. Martial arts movies can be gory, have you guys ever heard of shootfighter 1 and 2? There's a scene in part 1 where Martin Kove rips a guy's throat off bone and everything. Pretty graphic. I'm almost done with the movie by the way. Hammer girl vs 2 showdown baby!!

Finished it! Joe vs Iko was everything X 1000!!! Oh and another thing I hate about netflix. When a movie is over and the credits roll, it minimize the screen and shows me a movie or a tv series I have no interest in whatsoever. Fuck off netflix.

They are "recommending" movies to you based on what you watched.

I have found good/enjoyable movies that way............movies that I would not have watch/search for on my own.

I get that. I'd rather come here in this group for movie recommendations. Most of the times, it's movies that are pretty much garbage or tv series I do not care for.

Saw this, felt myself getting old

The Night Comes for Us (Indonesia, 2018) [Netflix] - 2.5/5
Stylish but hollow martial arts gore actioner. Perhaps I'm getting old, but this reached the point where the constant ultra-graphic violence towards both heroes and villains ceased to be enjoyable or hard hitting, and just got nauseating. This feels more like "torture porn action" than the good old "ultra violent action" (anything from Sonny Chiba to Lone Wolf and Cub or Versus) which were relatively clean-cut in their bloody but cartoonish violence. Here the focus is on pain, graphic detail and pieces of flesh being cut off from human bodies. The action itself is quite well filmed, largely lacking the shakycam, CGI overdose and editing issues that you'd find in the Raid films. There are also some exciting bits that rely more on fight choreography than gore, like Julie Estelle`s final fight. You do wish, however, that they had gotten a bit more out of the characters/storyline (esp. Taslim vs. Uwais with its honor/brotherhood tension) as the potential was there. The missed opportunity somewhat reminded me of the director's earlier film Killers, which was very entertaining but largely wasted its psychological potential.

Just an ok from me. Too gory, some decent action from Iko, last fight etc, want to see a film he does that focuses on martial arts and not horror.

Completely agree with everything you've said there.

I liked it, but I dont have too much to say about this one.

Really nice filmwork at times, a couple of good scenes (such as the talk on the bridge), too gory for me, decent choreography. Better than Jailbreak, not better than either Raid movie.

I overall thought it was ok, but there just wasn't enough background story to actually want to care about the characters in the movie.  The violence in it was a bit way over the top for the sake of being gross I felt.

So The Criterion Collection is starting to release “Netflix films” on Blu-ray, let’s hope that The Night Comes For Us will finally get a chance for a Blu-ray this year or next!

I saw it the first time and it was a pleasant sight. It wasn't the masterpiece I was hoping for, because Evans' directing manages to do things with even greater finesse, but the scenes were still very impressive and I couldn't help but be surprised. I saw it again after a while and I was already tired after a while. I can't stand this gangster gimmickery. I can't take seriously the fake/arrogant language of some characters playing gangsters. The fights, which for most modern viewers are unbelievable, I find them too automatic (like an assembly line) after a while. after half an hour of fighting like that I don't grow up getting involved. they're too exasperated (even with Evans I try this, but the director still manages to catch me). people love this kind of violence. after a while I get tired of seeing exasperated fights like that. I prefer movies like The Assassin where the violence and the direction are balanced and anyway at very high peaks. This Korean film, like many others, I find it much superior to these new Indonesian productions, which are still interesting to watch, but after a while (personally) I get tired of Them.it's clear that I'd always rather have certain films than not have them.

I'm almost 4 years late but I finally watched it in the weekend. The story is simple and the actual action choreography is on par with what Indonesia have shown before. But gosh, the action scenes are so GORY and that's what makes them stand out and such a joy to watch. It's next level goriness in martial arts action movies, and second to none. Interesting casting, and great use of everyone involved with the action scenes. Especially Taslim, Estelle, and the actresses playing the Lesbian fighting duo.

This is such an ace vehicle for Joe Taslim, after seeing his performances in Warrior and Mortal Kombat. As much as Iko Uwais gets mentioned more, Taslim is the true star of the movie. When The Raid came out, Taslim was never discussed nor hyped like Uwais and Yayan Ruhian. He had to go his own path building up and seeking recognition. And it has paid off. Uwais, as good as he is as an overall action performer, I still can't favor his style. The way he telegraphs his movements, his overall acting in correlation to his movements. It doesn't leave great impression in me. Taslim is another story though. He showed it in the aforementioned titles, and unleashes his executed moves with flair to perfection here. His overall acting skills is also a huge plus as it complements and makes his action performances shine greatly. Acting is the key word here. Martial arts actors with real MA skills but missing the acting is nothing special. Taslim is someone who defines being a special MA talent.

Simplistic in its' story and acting but very violent. That's the best way to describe this great action movie.

I applaud the practical effects team and stunt men and actors but really these kind of films are just not as good as the old school 70s ones.

There is no sense of anticipation or fun, it is just non stop action without stakes because I don’t like any of these characters. I can’t explain it but when a Ti Lung or David Chiang get a mortal wound and continue to fight waves of villains I get a huge grin on my face. In modern movies I just get bored despite the excellent work they do.

I also miss style despite odd and unique camera angles. When Chang Cheh does a mass action scene I at least get the sense they are all attack at once instead of waiting their turn to get chopped up.

Action movies used to be ballet now they’re just gory and loud

Scott Adkins movies are fun though!

Scott Adkins wishes he has something as good as The Night Comes for Us in his filmography.

probably because TNCFU is clearly not a low budget film the way Scott Adkins films usually are.

Any word on if this is still going to receive a official blu ray release? I see a ton of bootlegs for sale but I'm still holding out for a legit one.

Criterion has slowly been releasing some Netflix exclusives on Blu-ray so I’d say that would be the best bet for any future Blu-ray release. Unfortunately there’s been no word on this film but I guess it could be announced any month when they do the monthly release announcement which you can see at Blu-ray.com
