Member Takuma Posted September 22, 2013 Member Share Posted September 22, 2013 Stars Shoko Nakagawa. I believe Rina Takeda will be doing the fighting again when the character is in costume. I've lost my faith in Iguchi, though. Too much CGI and lame jokes, poor technical execution (I'll take Nishimura over Iguchi any day). Didn't even bother seeing Dead Sushi. A bit amused to see this shot in 2.35:1, though. Suppose Iguchi is aiming for a grand epic trailer: website: http://ngz-movie.com/ (watch out, it's loud)
Member Takuma Posted January 26, 2014 Author Member Share Posted January 26, 2014 Saw this yesterday. Slightly surreal seeing a Iguchi film shot in 2.35:1 on a 12 metre screen in the biggest multiplex in the city. 259 sets - 11 of them taken And that was the opening day, Saturday evening The best thing about the film: kick-ass soundtrack by Kenji Otsuki's metal/rock band Tokusatsu. Final 15 min is totally off the wall with heroes battling in the air and lolitas levitating and shooting lasers from their breasts, all synced to the theme song. Rina Takeda plays two roles. She's less interesting while in the super hero costume, thanks to lackluster action and suit design. But she's burning hot in her second role as a metrosexual-escaped-from-host-club -looking pretending-to-be-male (!) bodyguard!!!! The bad: everything else. Another pg-12 flick full of hideous looking CGI blood, CGI bullets, CGI cars, CGI guns And Iguchi's typical fart jokes that still aren't funny. And cringeworthy drama. Talento / singer / cat hugger Shoko Nakagawa starting to look too old for lolita outfight, too, or she just has way too much makeup. The English title Gothic Lolita Battle Bear is fun exploitation, though. The heroine plain straight lolita, the goths are the bad guys, and the battle bear is neither. Based on the song Fight! Nuigurumar by Kenji Otsuki, released 14 years ago. Hard to recommend to anyone except those who just discovered crazy Japanese pop culture and though Robo-Geisha was a cool film. Member smilebomb Posted January 27, 2014 Member Share Posted January 27, 2014 Every iteration of this Japanese B movie thing since The Machine Girl has been progressively worse and worse... These guys do know we're mostly in it for the cheesy effects and gore, right? Not so much the syfy channel CGI and fart jokes.

Though most of this stuff indeed has its main market overseas, Gothic Lolita Battle Bear was actually made for Japanese pg-12 audiences, not so much for foreign. Member Secret Executioner Posted January 27, 2014 Member Share Posted January 27, 2014 Looks like one crazy flick. About as whacky if not whackier than some Godfrey Ho Ninja movies.
Member DrNgor Posted July 9, 2022 Member Share Posted July 9, 2022 I watched this last night. It was like a tokusatsu movie filtered through the lens of the people who made those Sharknado sequels. Check out my review below: https://abeautifulfilm.blogspot.com/2022/07/gothic-lolita-battle-bear-2014.html
