DAMN!!! I wish I could take 2 months off work and move to Brisbane for this!!!

The Gallery Of Modern Art (GOMA) in Brisbane is having a mega marathon of HK madness I just heard about. Showing the films in 35mm glory over a 2mth period.

SEE HERE

"Celebrating unique popular action genres, 'Action, Hong Kong Style' is a landmark retrospective of 70 films that traces the genesis of Hong Kong's highly influential action cinema. The program ranges from early wuxia swordplay films with their Chinese opera roots to the Shaw Brothers and the new kung fu cinema of the late 1960s and 1970s, to the 'bullet ballet' of the 1980s and 1990s associated with John Woo and Johnnie To, and beyond to the present day. It profiles cult films and figures such as Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Chow Yun Fat and Sammo Hung, as well as showcasing lesser known films and actors who deserve broader recognition. A special focus will be presented on Wong Fei-hung, the historical martial arts hero whose life has been more often adapted to film than any comparable figure. Recent cinematic attention to wing chun master Ip Man is also profiled through the inclusion of a number of high-impact features."

Holy cow, that's a lot of films! Would've been nice to Yuen Biao on that list and have Knockabout, The Prodigal Son, & Righting Wrongs on there.

Wow, I got re-located to Brisbane for my job from January - May this year. After the first week there I was counting down the days until I could come back to Sydney, so I never thought there'd be a time just a few months later when I'd be wishing I was back there! 'Pedicab Driver' on the big screen....what a dream.

Any chance you'll be going back to visit for some of this? How long a drive or plane ride away is it for you?

Driving it takes over 10 hours, flying just over an hour...neither options are particularly appealing just for the sake of watching a few movies, especially when you factor in petrol &/or flight costs.

I'll just hope by some miracle it comes to Sydney....
