The Dragon Pearl (2012)

This is not a martial arts film, only akin to one fight scene, but it is an Australian-Chinese co-production that was a pretty decent family film. I got to watch it yesterday and really enjoyed it.

It stars Sam Neill (JURASSIC PARK) and Wang Ji as two archaeologists in China who are excavating an ancient Chinese tomb. For the summer, Neill's son and Wang's daughter arrive to not only spend the summer with their parents, but also see what the tomb has in terms of its treasure.

When Wang's daughter has the ability to hear a flute played, she sees a crazy Chinese man named Wu Dong leave the excavation area. He drops his flute and the two teens follow him to Dragon Temple. Wu Dong is the latest of the protectors of the temple, which houses a Chinese dragon, who was once the protector of the Emperor. The dragon still has some of its power, but has lost its pearl...hence the title.

Jordan Chan makes his full English language debut as the funny Wu Dong and it is he who has the only action scene of the whole film. It sees him taking on two thugs of the main villain, who is after the pearl for his own evil intentions. The fight was choreographed by Jacky Yeung and featured some wire-fu.

Despite the only fight scene in the film, we enjoyed The Dragon Pearl, which is out on DVD. :) Its practically like a Hallmark movie.
