June 27th , 1973......an era that would last 12 yrs and 7 films , a toast to sir Rog

7 films , that record won't be beaten any time soon......reckon Craig will do 5 and that'll be it.

Italian LALD poster is the only to not feature the black woman on the right side , also the cop car is orange instead of white (Italy also made their own versions of other 007 posters , for example Thundeball where Bond looks ahead instead of tilting his head to the left side , as to greet audience)

My introduction to Bond. Saw it in the theater, so RM would be the Bond I grew up with and associated the role of 007 most.

Soooo many great moments from L&LD. Sheriff J.W. Pepper?? What a character!

My mom saw it x-mas '73 , still 7 yrs before I came along.

People say the films would've been better if Laz did more but honestly I think the scripts would've been the same.

Blame Tom Mankiewicz and Guy Hamilton: Between them they created Diamonds Are Forever, Live and Let Die, and The Man with the Golden Gun. Any one of which could've killed the series stone dead. It's a miracle Bond survived all three combined.

For me Bond at his nadir was Moonraker. I like this [Live and Let Die], especially compared to the later Moore films like Moonraker or A View to a Kill where he seems to have trouble running or moving. I enjoy the New Orleans aspect to the movie. The title song is one of my favorites.

Wanted to check out Moonraker but couldn't even watch the trailer... I've never been much into Bond I must say (I know the titles and some of the actors who played 007 but that's all). I only have one of the books, The Spy Who Loved Me. Not sure what the movie version is worth though.

Speaking of the Bond books, here is a funny story that happened to me during the first year of my degree in English. One of our teachers made us translate a part of From Russia With Love. The best part must have been that the room we had class in was the 007.

I looooooove Moonraker.... though im not blind to its faults. I think the Moore era kinda grew stale with Octopussy and A View To A Kill.

Live and Let Die 2/4 (My least favourite Moore. Corny, dated, and racist)

The Man with the Golden Gun 2.5/4 (First half hour is good, pretty uneven after that)

The Spy Who Loved Me 2.5/4 (Average until protracted climax)

Moonraker 2.5/4 (Silly, campy, but surprisingly fun)

For Your Eyes Only 2/4 (As daft as Moonraker, but less enjoyable with it)

Octopussy 3/4 (My fave Moore Bond. Pure entertainment)

A View to a Kill 2/4 (Has its moments... but Moore was too old this time out)

FYEO is probably my fave of the Moore era.

What would you say is your favorite overall, Mark?

Mine is Living Daylights, though people berate me heavily for that.

My favorite is Goldfinger (I've seen all Connery, Dalton, Lazenby :) and Moore Bond films). I easily prefer the Connery ones over most of the newer ones. Living Daylights was fine. Live and Let Die is my favorite Moore, though really Moonraker is the only Bond film I despise.

I love LTK as well. Not typically "Bondish" but in a way the perfect action film.

YOLT is probably my second fave.... ninjas, spaceships and piranhas all in the same movie... that's hard to beat.

Skyfall is rock bottom on my list.... I could barely finish it.

Skyfall is by far the most overrated 007 entry.

The plot has more holes than Swiss cheese and for the first time makes Bond look like an idiot.

And a pussy..... all this "humanizing the character" has effectively sucked the fun out of the series. It can be serious and still fun to watch, as LTK is good example of.

I love most of the Bond Movies!

I thought Pierce Bronson had all the chemistry as the best Bond IMO! Timothy Dalton was the worst Bond! And his 1st. Bond movie The Living Daylights sucked ass!

As far as the other movies go I pretty much enjoyed them all. Some were ok to excellent.

I like the new Bond films but I miss the gadgets and the theme music that really makes it a Bond Movie! I hope they keep making them.

I don't mind them humanising Bond, or making him vulnerable to violence, they did that well in Casino Royale, it's just that in Skyfall, he's a mindless thug, outsmarted by the villain 100% of the time. Bond was never a stupid drone!

Connery/Lazenby :

-OHMSS

-DN

-FRWL

-TB

-YOLT

-DAF (more of a spoof really)

Moore :

-FYEO

-TSWLM

-AVTAK (Moore was already getting old by FYEO imo......AVTAKs plot sounds realistic and is underrated , Walken was among the best vilains)

-LALD

-TMWTGG

Dalton :

-TLD

-LTK

Brosnan :

-GE (only Brosnan flick that is good imo , the others were just killing time type of films.....not really memorable)

-TND

-TWINE (never could get into it even though I tried)

-DAD

Craig :

-CR

-SF

-QoS

Moonraker was the last time Moore looked young enough to play Bond.

He aged noticeably between 1979-1981.

However, A View to a Kill was the only film in which it became an obstacle.

Even in Octopussy he managed to make the character work (and casting a slightly older actress to play opposite him was a smart move).

Never understood the lack of respect for The World is Not Enough; apart from Denise Richards I thought it was a good series entry.

I'm not going to argue that Moore was the best, or the most realistic Bond, but growing up in the late 70s/early 80s, he's the Bond I grew up with, and he's my favorite. And I must admit, I do like a small degree of silliness/over-the-top elements in Bond pics---not TOO much, but a little. I don't want a hyper-realistic spy movie when I go to see Bond. Moore definitely had the best comic timing of all the Bonds, and that made the movies more entertaining for me.

My top 10 Bonds:

1. On Her Majesty's Secret Service

2.You Only Live Twice

3. Man With the Golden Gun

4. Live and Let Die

5. Goldeneye

6. Goldfinger

7. Skyfall

8. For Your Eyes Only

9. Spy Who Loved Me

10. View To a Kill

Bonds I did not like:

1. Diamonds are Forever

2. Die Another Day

All the rest were at least moderately enjoyable for me, and of course the first couple of Connery ones were just excellent films. I will admit to being extremely disappointed with the post-Goldeneye Dalton movies. I thought Goldeneye was the best Bond in ages, and I was hoping for a run of great films from him. That did not happen.
