I vividly remember this...Disney produced this originally as a made for TV movie "The Last Electric Knight" and the ratings were well enough that they produced the series Sidekicks as a result.

Gil "Buck Rogers" Gerard plays a detective who takes in an orphaned boy, played by Ernie Reyes Jr., who is the last of a group of ancient martial arts warriors. Together they solve crimes and it was actually quite a fun series...wish it lasted more than one season.

The clip OKFC posted was from the original TV-movie.

Here was the intro to the series

Reel Power Stunts

I do remember the pilot, "Last Electric Knight" was released on rental VHS in the UK once upon a time. As a youngster, I was amazed a martial arts themed video only got a U certificate from the BBFC, who were often too keen to cut films or slap 15/18 certificates on them. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Last-Electric-Knight-Half-Dads/dp/B000V0VCIS

A quick Google turns up an enterprising bootlegger selling this copied to DVD

Someone has a rare VHS on Ebay too: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAST-ELECTRIC-KNIGHT-2-1-2-DADS-DISNEY-RARE-AND-DELETED-/370822912219?pt=UK_DVD_Film_TV_Videos&hash=item5656c498db

Not cheap, though.
