Member shukocarl Posted January 25, 2013 Member Share Posted January 25, 2013 My greatest film year has to be 1968-69. Look at the absolute classics that came out in that period... 2001 a Space Odyssey Once Upon a Time in the West On Her Majesty's Secret Service The Wild Bunch Rosemary's Baby Where Eagles Dare What is your favourite year? Member masterofoneinchpunch Posted January 25, 2013 Member Share Posted January 25, 2013 The more and more films I have seen over the years the harder it is to pick a favorite year (starting around somewhere in the mid-20s where I can pick a ten best of every year after). Literally almost every year I have some of my favorites. Now this isn't to say I like particular years for countries or genres (are favorite MA films are in the late 1970s, early 1980s; my favorite HK films tend to be late 80s early 90s; my favorite French films are from the 30s or 50s; my favorite Japanese films are from the 1950s; I favor 1920s films over early 1930s films, etc...) Looking at my top 100 films, well I still can't figure it out. In 1986 I saw Platoon twice in the theater.

Member Takuma Posted January 26, 2013 Member Share Posted January 26, 2013 Early 70's was amazing if you're into Japanese action and exploitation cinema. Too bad I wasn't born yet 1972 serves as an example: Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance Lone Wolf and Cub: Babycart at River Styx Lone Wolf and Cub: Babycart in Peril Lone Wolf and Cub: Babycart to Hades Female Prisoner 701: Scorpion Female Prisoner Scorpion: Jailhouse 41 Hanzo the Razor Sukeban Guerilla Wandering Ginza Butterfly: She-Cat Gambler Terrifying Girls' High School Rica Street Mobster Under the Flag of the Rising Sun Red Peony Gambler 8 + Execution Squad (La polizia ringrazia) Milano Calibro 9 The Godfather Deliverance Fist of Fury Boxer from Shantung Hapkido King Boxer Though around that time every year had a similar set of dynamite on offer... Member TibetanWhiteCrane Posted January 26, 2013 Member Share Posted January 26, 2013 Can't narrow it down to one year, but as far as decades go, nothing beats the 80's for me.

Member YnEoS Posted January 27, 2013 Member Share Posted January 27, 2013 In terms to pure quantity of favorite films it has to be 1928. In general I'm a big fan of the whole late silent era (1927-1929 roughly, though there were also some great silents in the 1930s, particularly from the Soviet Union and Japan). 1928 seems to be the highest concentration of films though. I think this is based off of IMDB dates so it might not be 100% accurate. The Passion of Joan of Arc (Carl Theodor Dreyer) Fall of the House of Usher (Jean Epstein) Maldone (Jean Grémillon) L’Argent (Marcel L’Herbier) The Italian Straw Hat (René Clair) The Magical Clock (Wladyslaw Starewicz) Spies (Fritz Lang) Zvenigora (Aleksandr Dovzhenko) October (Sergei M. Eisenstein & Grigori Aleksandrov) Storm Over Asia (Vsevolod Pudovkin) The Circus (Charles Chaplin) Steamboat Bill Jr. (Charles Reisner & Buster Keaton) The Wedding March (Erich Von Stroheim) Street Angel (Frank Borzage) Hangman’s House (John Ford) The Docks of New York (Josef Von Sternberg) The Last Command (Josef Von Sternberg) The Crowd (King Vidor) Show People (King Vidor) Lonesome (Pál Fejös) The Man Who Laughs (Paul Leni) West of Zanzibar (Tod Browning) The Wind (Victor Sjöström)
