Looking for info, this films 'nice' but the Universe DVD is terrible

I'm wondering if the Joysales is better (still available and its cheap) - were the subs re done? what about picture, the Universe looks like someone filmed a TV from long distance.

Got a feeling the HKL was flawed in some way?

Also I know the film is available on ultra rare Japanese Laserdisc. Is it merely longer, or does the dub add dramatic weight to the film? The Canto dub appears to have some terrible jokes in it that ruin the 'realness' of the film

The subs must've been redone for the HKL (they are SO poor on the Universe, and there's a few jokey references to 'Jackie Chan' similar to Mr Vampire - can that really be the dialogue? Sounds more like dubtitles). Also was the sound a down mix or original?
