I got it and it's awesome...

Language: German 2.0, English 2.0 and Mandarin 2.0

Subtitles: English

Extras: Interviews with David Chiang and Ti Lung, some Trailers and some promotional stuff...

It's a beautiful Mediabook with lots of pictures and the movie is fully uncut...(Chen Hsing's deathscene is complete).

The mediabook contains the Blu Ray and the DVD.

The german title is: Das Schwert des Gelben Tigers

Thanks, is it the original English dub?

This is on my must buy list..:-)

Are there any other Shaw classics out on Blu ray with English subs released in Germany we don't know about?

Yes it's quite pricy, but i think it's a rather small company and the quality is great.

They announced all in all seven mediabooks for the future.

DR, thanks for bringing this to my attention! Just checked on OfdB and it sounds really interesting: Mandarin OA, English subs, not the framecut-heavy IVL print and issued by the same company (TVP) that recently licensed several old Shaw titles. I didn’t buy any of their stuff as yet because they concentrated on the most obvious standards so far, but I inquired about them and to the best of my knowledge they do have a deal with Celestial, so its legal stuff. So far their main selling point has been that they always slapped the old, original theatrical German dub on of their releases (as opposed to the Shaw titles that MiB licensed that had new, pitiful dubs voiced in a studio that usually specialized in porn; at least that’s the story I can remember. Then again, the “original theatrical” German dubs sounded almost as pitiful to me; I tried occasionally but never managed to sit through a single one in my life!).

Anyway, PQ that was already impressive on TVP’s NEW ONE-ARMED SWORDSMAN dvd is reported to be “markedly sharper” on the BD. It’s supposedly limited to 2.000 units and, yeah, it ain’t cheap, almost 33 € on Amazon. Still I guess I should take the plunge, though...

Any websites people can recommend to buy this from apart from Amazon and that ship to the UK?

Doesn’t look like there's much choice. Cheapest is where I’ll be ordering, OfdB itself (29.98 €, no postage inside Germany), but you gotta be a member, I'm afraid... :tinysmile_angry2_t:

BTW, I see that next in line for TVP is the HEROES TWO Blu Ray, but everybody ought to have the bonafide Tokyo Shock version already (and Linn’s commentary would certainly not grace the German BD!).

Wonder what other Shaw titles they’ll drop as BD’s...

The next Blu Ray they will release is SHAOLIN AVENGERS (according to a TVP guy at a german forum)....I think they've cancelled the Blu Ray release of HEROES TWO......

Couldn't possibly justify £30 + postage per BD. That's Criterion... and then some. No film is worth that much. Will have to stick with DVDs and DVD-Rs.

Mark, you obviously never collected Laserdiscs in there day!...

It is expensive, but tempting as this may never get a release like this anywhere else.

I don't regret buying this Blu Ray for 30Euro+ ....

It's the definitive edition and i always enjoy supporting small labels.

I will also buy their upcoming Blu Ray Mediabooks.

My FIRST MISSION Blu Ray had more or less the same price and i'm okay with investing money in rare stuff.....why not?

I'm a pragmatic guy when it comes to spending my money, but movies and music have always been my weak spot.

If you think 30GBP is a lot, stay away from Japanese Blu-rays! Often, people come at this expecting the same aggressive pricing as major companies offer with their catalogue titles, and I think that's a mistake if it's a good release. Especially now, nobody wants to shell out extra cash/time/effort, distributors included, so when someone pays it forward with proper HD and exclusive features no less, that's well worth the money...to me, anyway. Would that I actually wanted to own NOAS!

Damn, I would love a Boxer From Shantung blu-ray! I have the French DVD, which is the best looking version of the film, but of course has no English subs (which is why I had to go the custom route).

The next Blu Ray they will release is SHAOLIN AVENGERS (according to a TVP guy at a german forum)....I think they've cancelled the Blu Ray release of HEROES TWO......

Well, if you try hard enough, there's the Media Blasters release, which is easily one of their best blu-rays. Gorgeous picture, mono tracks, and nice extras!

Not to derail but did they mention where they sourced the print from? Or, did Celestial "find" the missing uncut print? Maybe same thing that happened to Human Lanterns. But, I have always had my doubts about the films being remastered from the original films. Perhaps remastered from the original edited beta broadcast tapes that were made for tv by the Shaws back in the day. Just an opinion. I am probably wrong. Maybe some of them were, some of them not.

The missing scene's picturequality is inferior to the great looking rest of the film, but it's not distracting....the scene is very short and i'm happy about the fact that they've inserted it into the film.

Thanks for the release list! My wallet just burst into flames! If you get any information as to when these will come out please post it. Is the best place to buy these discs (I'm in the USA) from Amazon Germany?
