What was the last classic martial-arts film you watched?

If you have either of the two 50 packs, or more than one of the smaller sets from mill creek, it probably isn't worth it. I believe these have all the movies from previous and/or smaller sets they have released.

I watched Kingfisher the Killer. It was an action packed, exploitative brawler. Nothing great, but was a good way to spend an hour and a half. Good bad dub, a short brawl in the back of a moving pick up truck(sort of impressive, lol), and a pretty good 2v1 finale were the highlights. There were some funny weird 80s exploitation scenes, like the Bruce imitator (I think?) guy popping balloons tied around another guys head as nightclub entertainment. I would also like to know where this movie was made.

I think I may have seen that one on a youtube marathon years ago. I might have this wrong (it might be the movie Twins) but I remember being surprised to see ugly Ang Saan as the lead villain. Usually he's just a thug but he's the director of the movie so I guess that's what gave him the oppurtunity to get a good role.

hkmdb says it was filmed in Thailand.

Yeah that is the same way I am. When I first starting watching Fu I watched a couple classics on youtube (Avenging Eagle, which has remained one of my top 10 favorites since than), I really wish I would have waited. I actually just watched a flick on my PC for the first time in a few years the other day. (5 Fighters.)

His face did seem familiar, I am sure I have seen him before if he has played thug #3 a few times, haha.

Yes, they are all part of the Iron Fist Frenzy 50-pack, which is half of the 100 set. All you would need, if you don't already have it, is the previous 50-pack set that Mill Creek released to have what is in the 100 set.

Yeah, and it's just called Martial Arts 50 Movie Pack or something like that.

Personally, I only have the Flying Fists Of Kung Fu set and I'm surprisingly pleased with it - didn't expect it to turn out that good, especially considering the reviews for those packs on the Web concerning the quality (sure it's nothing stellar, but it's still very watchable), the movies (no big dud so far - maybe one, but even this one is still a bit enjoyable)...

Considering getting other of those, not sure which one(s) to pick though.

The Grand Passion a Polly Kuan, Pai Ying wu xia from Union Films. They play brother and sister who give all for their country fighting a traitor. Very influenced by Samurai movies of the time, very well made. The Union films take a different approach then Shaws films, with almost all outdoor settings and interiors are less stylized. The fighting is decent, though the camera work is not always up to Shaw's standards, the overall movies from Union Films to me are just as good. Also, King Hu's influences can be seen in the films. Worth getting.

Woman Avenger & Impossible Woman AKA Ninja Avenger.

The Matchless Conqueror-Part of the Joseph Kuo Trilogy-Chiang Nan wanders the country, trying to go legit while escorting a kid to his relatives and runs into someone who wants to kill him about every 3 to 5 minutes.

Nancy Yen joins him, after trying to kill him as well, but you can tell she feels bad about the kid. C

hiang suffers like Jesus- he takes beating after beating- poison swords, throwing knives, massive palm strikes to the heart, and he just keeps going. I mean, he gets some medical attention here and there, but mostly he just gets hurt while he takes on all comers.

Basically everyone's trying to get a martial arts book,though I can't recall we even see it.

Still, it's a Joseph Kuo movie, so sooner or later it just has to fly off the handle, when people start flying and getting impaled and so on. Highly recommended, lol! Check it out!

Shaolin King Boxer

OK movie with some class action and fighting. The first half of the movie is spent building a weak plot that you don't care about, with a few disappointing fights mixed in considering the talent involved..

Than the second half of the film comes along..and it is a straight 45 minutes of good fighting. It is nothing we haven't seen, but some of the most talented screen fighters doing what they do best. The cast includes Chen Kuan Tai, Lau Kar Wing, Meng Fei, Wilson Tong, Beardy, Kwan Hung, and more.. CKT shows his usual powerful looking moves, Lau Kar Wing shows some awesome double sword skills, and Meng Fei is smooth with a fan. Lau Kar Wing has a hilarious hammy death to top it all off.

As many times as I have seen Lau Kar Wing, he never fails to impress me. If I were to describe him in one word, it would be masterful. Definitely in my top 5 favorite screen fighters.

OK movie, very good second half of action, headed by some of the best screen fighters, although it is far from any of their best work.

Good question, I watched a bad (funny) dubbed version, but I noticed when he first spread the fan out, it zoomed on the words and some music played. I just sighed :/

I'd love to see this one wide. Good flick. One of Meng Fei's best performances. He shows that he can hold his own against some of the genre's most popular actors.

The Supreme Sword1968/69? Connie Chan.

Talk about old skool! Anyway, a decent little cheaply made cantonese Wu Xia with Sek Kin as one of the 4 tigers, Sam the Seed as "the Devil", a one armed villain who can travel beneath the sand and Walter Tso Tat Wah as the wandering Supreme Sword hero. Fights by LKL and Tong Gai, so, despite the lack of a lot of cool camera work, the fights are pretty good, some decent gore and a few cool weapons. From what I can tell, the sets and everything looked cramped, so I can only imagine that they could not afford a lot of different or custom made weapons (Tong Gai's specialty, right) just some hammers, axes and hook swords. Directed by Ling Yun, who made 107 movies! Not 108, though, LOL! Connie was a cutie, and pretty capable with a sword. It is interesting, in that she was a huge star at one point and "retired" before the kung fu movie craze hit. I just read that she returned to the Chinese opera stage to great success 25 years later.

Anyway, nice little flick, nothing that I necessarily would kill myself to get, but if it falls in your lap, check it out!
