Fairly certain Vengeance Video and Rarescope was all Toby's own prints or tapes converted to DVD.

They were never great quality but i don't think Vengeance Video were bootleggers.

I thought it was a legit one, and even this morning I bought their release of Gambling for head !!

Their releases were submitted to the BBFC, so I'm wrong in calling them a bootleg label. I had to return a lot of their releases, and get them exchanged due to the DVD's either not playing or being too heavily pixelated. A problem I didnt have with Eastern Heroes or Hong Kong Legends releases. Hollywood East was another label were it was very hit or miss, in terms of the picture quality etc.

@ShawAngela, Gambling for Head was one of Old School movies that was denied a theatrical release in the U.K, due to the violence. The Vengeance Video release, was the first time the film had been released in England.

Black Dragon's Revenge

Ron Van Clief aka The Black Dragon is hired to head out to Hong Kong to find out who was involved in Bruce Lee's death. He hooks up with the Latin Panther Charles Bonet, who's running an antiques shop. Van Clief is quite charasmatic and has the moves but his acting is very stiff, displaying little emotion. A lot of the cast from The Black Dragon are in this one. The film detective Blu Ray BD-R features a nice print, we really need a top version of Way Of The Black Dragon to appear soon.

The Best and the Worst (1974) - source movie of Robert Tai's directorial debut Devil Killer. What started as a not very promising little kung fu movie ended up being solid basher with some inventive choreo and camera work. Blackie Ko stars as the wrongfully accused honest guy set up by the local evil boss and his rapist son, and Lo Rei's real life brother Tong Lung as the newly appointed police chief. The two end up fighting against the village scum. Worth the watch, but nothing great.

Only seen a small handful of Tong Lung's movie, Growling Tiger(1974) standing out the most. Gotta get round to seeing this, along with a hundred other Martial Arts titles.

Tell me about it, there are hundreds and hundreds I still need to see, I hope one lifetime is enough. Yeah, I've seen maybe five and I like him, I'll look for Growling Tiger, thanks! Lung and Blacky deliver some solid bootwork in TB&TW, with Blacky being skinny but fierce, while Tong looking jacked and tough. He also gets to show off his nunchaks skills and he seems every bit as good at it as Lo Rei.

If you're asking about The Best and the Worst, I don't really know. I got to see it thanks to every collector's best friend @bigrogie.

I watched Gambling for head this evening, running 1h28mn12s and I enjoyed it a lot !

What a superb non stop action movie. I don't remember if I have ever seen James Nam in a good guy role, before, and he is very good here.

Gambling for head and The Fierce One (Jaws of the Dragon) are the James Nam movies. He is a powerhouse in both. Great action good story and James Nam show here why he so often played the bad guy in his career. He dominat in Gambling for Head the screen like Chan Sing or Chang Yi does in their movies.

I watched The undaunted today.

What a superb non stop action movie ! But I don't like when my favorite actors (Kang Kai, here) have a sad ending !!

I also watched Magnificent 2. What another GREAT movie ! Except Shan Mao, Li Chiang, Lung Fong, Kwan Hung and Sun Yueh, the other actors weren't familiar to me, and the actor playing the main hero was great !!

Today I watched Rocky’s Love Affairs aka City Ninja aka Ninja Holocaust. While Godfrey Ho isn’t on board as a director, he’s certainly with this one in spirit.

Long story short, Casanova Wong and Michael Chan Wai Man end up on opposing teams when it comes to obtaining a stolen necklace. That’s really all you need to know as far as plot. However, you should also know that this movie is 85% a soft core porno. There are at least five sex scenes and TWO masturbation scenes. This is a wild film.

The action comes in spurts (much like the sex scenes, am I right?), with Casanova Wong putting in plenty of insane boot work. Considering the film is an insane mess, the action is highly watchable. There are ninjas, a “jive taking” black dude, a sword wielding samurai and it’s all loads of fun.

You can certainly shit your brain off for this one. The plot means NOTHING. Just enjoy Michael Chan Wai man banging a girl in a boxing ring and Casanova Wong booting two men into a lake and go then get out of lake, bone dry, to fight him again.

Not great but quite a riot. Should have been called “Tits and Kicks.”

I just watched Brawl Busters , what a terrible kung fu flick this is

Dragon From Shaolin. I recently posted a clip from this movie on Instagram, more for it's unintentional comedic nature.

So you can watch it on a triple bill with Bruce Strikes Back and Challenge of the Tiger.

Sounds like the title Rocky's Love Affiars is more apt, than the misleading ninja inspired a.k.a's. Recall this one being average, with Casanova Wong still on top form as usual.

Still thanks to @NoKUNGFUforYU, I also watched The end of the wicked tigers this week-end.

I can't believe that I spent so mnay years watching martial arts movies without coming across this movie.

It is GREAT !! SUPERB ! NON STOP ACTION !!

And it's so rare to see Lee Ka Ting asd the good guy and hero. I think that I only saw him playing a good guy in the movie Tiger.

His face was familiar to me since long ago, maybe that I had seen some of the movies he played in when I was a teenager in the cinemas, I don't know, but he is easily recognizeable.

He makes a good pair with Charles heung here, and Han Ying Chieh makes me think of Shih Kien or Kwan Tak Hing, who were old and still played fighters in their movies.

And I forgot Wilson Tong ans Sammo, excellent in the villains' roles.

Highly recommended !

Another gem subbed by @NoKUNGFUforYUthat I watched yesterday : Sword of Heaven and Hell.

A great wuxia and the subtitles helped to finally understand a lot of the plot that had escaped to me when I watched it in Mandarin years ago.

Death Force

At the end of the vietnam war, 3 vets smuggle out a coffin full of gold that they sell to some shady dudes meeting on a boat in the middle od the sea.Two of them double cross their mate, cut his throat and throw him overboard, leaving him for dead. He's washed up on a remote island barely alive and he's found by two WW2 Japanese soldiers who still think the wars on. They nurse him back to health ,one of them is a samurai warrior who decides to teach the american the ways ond skills of the samurai. He swears he will one day get off the island, find his family and take revenge on his two former friends. While there's not a lot of martial arts action in this one, there's some kicks and plenty of sword action. This director's cut at 110 minutes is very long for an exploitation movie and it does drag early on but the final 3rd has plenty of action. Leon Isaac Kennedy is in a early villianous role here, the star James Igleheart is pretty good, don't think he made another movie.

6 movies for Inglehart, Bamboo Gods and Iron Men has biggest hit, but he was "Randy Black" in Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, screenplay Roger Ebert of all people.
