Longtime lurker first time posting here, I finally watched My Young Auntie recently and needless to say I was blown away by this movie and Kara's performance. She was hilarious yet badass at the same time. I was looking for some help finding more of her movies to watch where she is the star or one of the main stars doing a majority of the fighting. Ive gone through her wiki, imdb pages, and searched old threads but here its hard to tell she has done so many movies. I prefer the period pieces right now but modern will work too. So other then My Young Auntie which of her movies does she do most of the fighting and acting?

Another of Hui Ying Hung's top fliks is Lady is the Boss-almost My Young Auntie 2-She is superb in the greatest film of all time 8 Diagram Pole Fighter, she is also excellent (although she does less action) in both Martial Club and Legendary Weapons of China, Long Road to Gallantry is another full-on hardcore action role as is Tigress from Shaolin.

She is also superb in Donnie Yen's classic recent flik Wu Xia...

popsjnr beat me to it, I was going to mention all the films in his post, especially Lady is the Boss although I would have to add that she doesn't get to fight as much in that compared to My Young Auntie, but it is a favourite of mine. She's a brilliant actress, I'm a big fan of hers. She also popped up in more modern stuff, with short but great appearances in Burning Ambition and They Came to Rob Hong Kong to name a couple.

You know, I wish I could remember the film title, but it was a comedy - Kara Hui is one Hell of a dancer too. You should check out all of her films, she's a tremendous talent.

Yes, she was - and again, a Hell of a dancer. I've only seen one film where it was demonstrated - not a great film mind you, but she was excellent and I was deeply impressed.

She was a street performer/dancer-who was spotted (amongst other things) by Lau Kar Leung, and brought to the attention of Fong Yat Wah, and signed to Shaw's. She brought out a very nice book full of "artistic photographs" in the early 90's, which I used to own....and spent many hours studying...some of the shots were used in an article I wrote about her in the book Essential Guide to Deadly China Dolls in the mid 90's.

Kara has always impressed me with her martial arts skills, although she learned some from her brothers and the rest from Lar Kar Leung (with whom she had a relationship). I think her dancing background (as with Chen Pei Pei and Michelle Yeoh) proved to be an asset for her martial arts training.....but she did suffer many injuries early in her career.

These other guys beat me to most of the really good stuff. she does have a small but important role in FIST OF THE WHITE LOTUS. She was recently in the recent remake of A CHINESE GHOST STORY which was no where near as bad as everyone said it was. I enjoyed her performance as an evil tree demon.

Despite your careful studies, I was afraid you might have missed something. So I made sure to put in a good block of time studying those as well.

Lovers Blades is one of her very best for fighting, on-screen time & just general looking fine. If this had been remastered & out with the Celestial dvd batches it would have been a first post mention.

It was a whole book? Someone posted some pictures on the old forum here a couple of times, I thought it was from a magazine shoot.

Never heard of this! I'll have to look for it. Thanks for the heads up bro.

I've never seen the book Popsjr referred to, only his article and pics in the book Essential Guide to Deadly China Dolls.

No idea on the English title. Maybe someone here can translate.

Never saw any site selling this item - only individuals; the last being a member here back in 2008.

Thanks is it still available and what would the English title be? Thanks to KFB too, for replying.

This has really been killing me but I think Madam City Hunter is the film where Kara Hui does her incredible dancing number. I would have bought the film for that alone. Can anyone confirm? I'm almost certain, this is one of the first scenes we have of her where she plays the sexy girlfriend - soon to be wife - of Cynthia Khan's father in the film.

Never seen the film but I have it, and I checked, Kara Hui does do a dance / kind of thing in the film. It's more like a soft porn stripping sequence at a very slow pace with some seemingly Michael Jackson influence going on. I had no idea Kara was in that film so that was a pleasant surprise, but to be honest, (and I know nothing about dance) besides the pervy appeal the dancing in the scene didn't seem that good, her fast moves in her best fights eclipse it. Disclaimer- I scanned through it in a rush.

Then it may not have been that one. It was an early comedy, she was dating the father in the film and she does a dance down the stairs and into the living room - I'm not sure if it was even martial art related or involved much action, but trust me it was great so it wasn't that one if it was slow and quick. Thanks. Too bad that Hong Kong DVD rental I used to belong to went out of business......:frown:

She does come down the stairs, does more of a strip tease than a dance, dressed in male clothes (shirt, tie, hat). Then later she seems to be doing a very brief lap dance dressed as a maid. I guess she's in the film for window dressing. edit- my old rental place disappeared too, funnily enough.

Look, I'll come out and say it: how do I obtain these "artistic photographs" of Kara?

For research purposes at all.

And by "research" I mean "masturbation."

when I got hitched I had to get rid of my copy, sadly, but if you ever get hold of the book Essential guide to deadly china dolls, there are two lovely shots in there...there was a smokin hot photo in her book of her by a window in France, in black panties and bra...oww!!! Wonderful book......had lots of wrist strengthening with it....ahem.

Another Auntie flik worth getting is Legend of the Drunken Tiger, just for how good she still is in it.....and for Lo Rei wearing a blonde wig and pretending to be an American soldier...
