Dark Horizons has announced that Jason Statham and director Brian DePalma are teaming up for a remake of the 1986 Burt Reynolds film HEAT.

Not to be confused with Michael Mann's 1995 crime caper, the legendary William Goldman penned the novel and adapted the script of both the original and this version in which Statham plays a tough recovering gambling addict who makes a living providing protection.

When a dear friend is brutally beaten by a high-rolling mobster, he helps her get her revenge and he ends up in more trouble than he ever imagined. One difference to his usual outings - Statham's character hates gunplay, keeping his fighting style restricted to hand and edged weapon combat.

Steve Chasman will be producing and shooting would begin eitehr at the end of the year or early 2013
