Finished Attack on Titan. It picks up towards the end a lot. Then it ends. Guess you knew it couldn't go on further with the manga still being published. It usually the problem with anime adapted from on going manga. Ex: Naruto, Bleach, Berserk, etc.

There is talks of a another set of Attack on Titan anime to continue to story. The author has also stated that he has the ending already in mind and the manga will conclude with a particular volume.

Thank god it isn't going to drag out like Berserk. They did put out new anime for Berserk that covers the story from the original series from the 90's and new material. They are up to movie 3. The art is a mixed bag, it looks nice, clean, and using 3D for some thing they get some interesting shots. However, it isn't all seamless. Some people really dislike the 3D. Also, even though the they upped the sex, nudity, and violence. They skipped over the entire story of Guts being abused as a kid. Not a pleasant subject but it is a part of what made him who he is. Also, probably a part of the anger that drives him.

Watched the new Evangelion movies 1.1, 2.2, and 3.3. They did a good job with 1 and 2. Everything looks beautiful. I was even willing to forget all the story they cut out and reworked character personalities. Rei is talkative and seems human. Then with 3.3, they jump into the future, leave people sort wonder WTF and pretty much ruin everything.

I thought the first one was pretty useless - it's almost scene by scene remake of the series, only omitting some of the best scenes. I liked the second one as it went its own way, and it features a fantastic use of

from
(1979). The third one is underrated, I think. Was bored by the opening and closing action scenes, but the rest of the film was pretty great.

Though the third film kinda suffered (in comparison) from having the utterly fantastic live action short Giant God Warrior Appears in Tokyo played before the film. That would have made a fantastic opening scene (in modified form of course). Anno can be a terrific live action director anyway - sadly it seems he never quite manages to integrate live action sequence into Evangelion, though he's come close more than once.

I still enjoyed the original series despite its flaws, constant whining Shinji and the multiple endings/movies.

Interesting things you pointed out about 3.3. I didn't know any of that.

Short Term 12 - A fantastic film and one of the best of 2013 in my opinion. A wonderful story about life and coping with the pains of emotional (and physical) scarring.

Been meaning to catch this, is it on VOD/netflix/dvd yet?

Completed the 37th Super Sentai Series yesterday Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuuger...very exciting ending...Koichi Sakamoto directed the first episode, subsequent episodes (while working on his Red x Pink movie) and returned to direct the final episode...

This was one of my favorite Super Sentai Series and I will be reviewing the series here on the site...next, Ressha Sentai ToQger.

It's out on DVD and so I'm assuming it's on VOD somewhere. It hasn't hit Netflix yet though.

I have been catching up on the main disaster films of the 70s the past few months including viewings of The Poseidon Adventure and The Towering Inferno.

Days of the "Shake and Bake." I remember seeing Earthquake in the theater. They had something called Sensurround in which the walls would vibrate making you feel as if you were in the film. Think they did something similar with faux smoke for The Towering Inferno. Saw bits of both of these on AMC in the past year but didn't get to watch from start to finish. Still think The Poseidon Adventure is the best of the three. Re-watched that not too long ago. The remake (2005) could have been better if they tacked on another 45 minutes with some back story or more character development.

12 YEARS A SLAVE (2013)

Finally immersed myself in it! Marvellous film, quietly evocative, ultra-restrained direction, even though you just wish Ejiofor could have snuffed Fassbender or any other of those sadistic crackers and dismembered them like cockroaches! But sadly the reality of the Black Holocaust never played out like an (oh so enertaining!) revenge fable à la DJANGO UNCHAINED. Should be made mandatory viewing for every American History class!

Agreed on all accounts. Really powerful film and it shows you what slavery was REALLY like, no glamorous story between a master having pity for the slaves, free people trying to help them or anything (agreed on what you say about Django Unchained, it's a very enjoyable western movie but really has nothing to do with the reality of the matter). The worst part of this has to be that it's based on a true story.

D'accord, mon frère'!

Might as well be the most important American movie made in this Millenium so far!

That would be freaky and annoying to see smoke when you are trying to watch a movie. I like the action portions of The Poseidon Adventure, but the melodrama and the early comedy setting up the film did not work for me. My favorite of the three is The Towering Inferno, though it helps I'm a Steve McQueen and Paul Newman fan. All of them set up some annoying moments that tend to aggravate (there's concrete in the stairwell for example for Towering Inferno.)

I never saw Earthquake. I'm a tad burnt out of disaster films, so it will be awhile before I see another one.

Ive been watching cheesy 80s ninja movies. Mostly so bad theyre good. Ninja in the Killing Fields is awesome! Some are just bad. Bionic Ninja.. :)

I'd count those as MA movies, so they'd go in the recently watched modern MA films. But anyway, NITKF didn't do much for me (except the ending fight that's completely nuts) while I enjoyed Bionic Ninja quite a bit - neither is really among the best 1980s Ninja films, but I needn't say that to someone with Hwang Jang Lee and his infamous blonde wig from Ninja Terminator in his avatar.

Homefront 2013 - Jason Statham and James Franco. 100min run time.

Typical story about a man with a past as a badass trying to live a quiet life in a small town. He tries but has a hard time fitting in. And you know trouble will inevitably follow in some form. It has a vibe like the TV series Justified. Couple cool action scenes. Story is not much but there is just enough to keep you interested. Even more so if you like action. Just don't expect a tremendous amount or anything you haven't seen before. Watchable, rent it.

Watched Blast of Slience. Very good gangster movie made with almost no budget. And Mr. Arkadin unusual but interesting Orson Welles film.

Rarely would I watch something twice in the same day. Badass! Olivia Thirlby is a babe, too.

Predator on Blu-Ray, been yeeeeeeeeeeeears since I watched it. I never appreciated just how damn good the film is before. Arnies best for sure. (Yes, better than the Terminator movies imho) A Classic that hasn't aged - "stick around!" "Queek, get to da choppaaah!"

With all the MA/KF movies I've been watching, decided to get into something else and have d science-fiction double-feature instead:

Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (Japan, 1974) (DivX)

Attack Of The Crab Monsters (USA, 1957) (DVD)

Wish I had Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla on DVD, but it doesn't have a French release (that I know of) and the R1 release always goes for crazy prices on amazon.fr - whether the single DVD or multi-DVD sets containing it - so I can't afford getting it from there.

A DivX is better than nothing though (got an English dub BTW).

Watched two Italian movies with Tomas Milian: Tepepa, very good Spaghetti Western with Orson Welles (!) playing a corrupt Mexican army officer. And Emergency Squad. Milian out for revenge in the Italian countryside. Gastone Moschin from Milano Calibro 9 plays the badguy. Decent movie. Couldve been better couldve been worse.

Decided to have a double feature of the Skulls sequels last night

The Skulls II (2002) - Robin Dunne (THE BIG HIT, CRUEL INTENTIONS 2) is the newcomer of the Ivy League secret society that has his world turned upside down when he witnesses a murder by a fellow Skull. Pretty decent made-for-video sequel that brings out some twists.

The Skulls III (2003) - Determined to prove she can make it, Taylor (Clare Kramer, the snooty blond cheerleader from BRING IT ON) becomes the first female member of the Skulls. However, she finds herself framed for the murder of her boyfriend and looks to find a way to clear her name. What shocked me here is the final twist of the puzzle...didn't expect it to end the way it did, and I mean this in a good way for a video sequel.

Cold comes the night (US) - Rental only if you're extremely bored.

Into the furnance (US) - Rental only if you're extremely bored

Run (US) - Avoid. Weak, poorly acted parkour movie without much actual parkour.

I Frankenstein (US) - Underworld with Gargoyles and Demons. With pretty much the same British cast. Minus Kate Beckinsdale in pleather. Make you're own decision. However, fair warning the story makes Underworld seem like an Oscar nominated movie.

Cherry tomatoes (KR) - Mixed bag, story isn't strong enough and didn't leave a lasting impression enough to recommend.

A brand new life (KR) - The life of an abandoned child as she tries to fit and come to terms with being an orphan.

Flu (KR) - Korea's version of Outbreak. Watchable even with some bad CG here and there.

Farewell Pickpocket (HK 1982) - 2 pickpockets are drawn into a criminal conspiracy that tries to manipulate them into helping out. Fighting was so so, and the overall story didn't do it for me. Avoid unless you're a Sammo Hung fan.

Is this movie 'Carry on Pickpocket? I never heard of it being under that title before.

And I beg to differ with your opinion, sorry. I think it is a very good film. Particularly the comedy aspect and Richard Ng was gold with his role as an inept policeman. Also, the action - for it's time (1982) was exceptional. I fully recommend this film to anyone who's into Hong Kong movies.
