Member Takuma Posted June 1, 2019 Member Share Posted June 1, 2019 The Yellow Sea (South Korea, 2010) [Netflix] - 3/5 Gripping, but uneven thriller told in an overly complicated fashion. It works better when the politics are put aside and the focus is on the sad protagonist, a man from a Chinese / North Korean border town sent to Seoul to kill a man. There are two major chase sequences, the first one of which is brilliant but the second one a shaky cam mess. The closing scene is great, but the ultra-violent last hour is otherwise too over-the-top to be taken seriously. Feels much like director Na Hong-jin ‘s first film, The Chaser. Moebius (South-Korea, 2013) [Netflix] - 2/5 Kim Ki-duk's film about lost dicks. Shocking, but repetitive with one dimensional characters. The film had quite a bit of censorship trouble in Asian countries, including Japan where the film was cut to shreds. The film could only secure an 18 rating in Japan after 5 minutes of censorship cuts to remove "child pornography" (the actor playing “the son” was 15 at the time of filming). Western censors, BBFC included, had no similar objections. How ironic.
Member Rodolphe Dux Posted June 2, 2019 Member Share Posted June 2, 2019 I am Vengeance by Ross Boyask with Stu Bennett (and Gary Daniels) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5885106/ I liked it, the pace is good, the cinematography is nice. But you have to dig cheap b-movie style. It is obviously a very low budget movie, but the charisma of Stu Bennett and Gary Daniels makes it very pleasent and badass. In the end, I'll take anything with a WWE superstar, that's definitely an awesome school for action star.
Member Secret Executioner Posted June 2, 2019 Member Share Posted June 2, 2019 In honor of Superman's 81st birthday (the character debuted in Action Comics #1, cover dated June 1938), I watched some Superman-related media this weekend. From the DVD set Superman The Animated Series - Volume Two "Identity Crisis" (Season 2, Episode 6) (1997) There are now TWO Supermen in Metropolis. And after the real one confronts his imitator, it turns out said imitator is a clone - a clone that's decaying and ends up becoming a white-skinned, poorly spoken freak dubbed "Bizarro". "Action Figures" (Season 2, Episode 9) (1997) Now amnesiac and in his robotic form, Metallo reemerges from the ocean where his last encounter with Superman had sent him. On the volcanic island he lands on, he befriends two kids and performs some good deeds, drawing Lois Lane's and Superman's attention. And as the volcano comes closer to erupting, Metallo slowly regains his memories and his real personality... Superman: A little piece of Home (literally called "souvenir from Krypton" in French), a single-DVD collection of four Superman The Animated Series episodes. "A little piece of Home" (Season 1, Episode 5) (1996) A piece of rock displayed in the new Luthor Museum turns out to affect Superman, causing the Man of Steel to become very weak. Naturally Lex tries to use the mysterious rock in question against Superman while Superman/Clark Kent and Lois investigate the mineral that turns out to be a radioactive element from Superman's home planet Krypton. "Speed Demons" (Season 2, Episode 4) (1997) In this team-up episode, Superman and The Flash are racing to decide which one is the faster. But a mad criminal calling himself the Weather Wizard is using his brother's latest invention to alter the weather in various areas for nefarious purposes. "The late Mr. Kent" (Season 2, Episode 22) (1997) Investigating on the case of a deathrow inmate he believes innocent take a turn to the worst when Clark Kent is reportedly dead after his car is bombed and sent into the ocean. Can Superman and Lois save an innocent from the death penalty in time ? How will Superman explain Clark's forecoming reappearance ? "Where there's smoke" (Season 3, Episode 1) (1998) A pyrokinetic villainess named Volcana is wrecking havoc in Metropolis and Superman's investigation on her leads him to find a secret organization is also interested in the fiery character.
Member Rodolphe Dux Posted June 2, 2019 Member Share Posted June 2, 2019 (edited) Finally, Venom (2018). I liked it, Tom Hardy entertained me, almost saved the movie from mediocrity. The first half is great, but the end of the movie let me down, Venom’s motivations are kind of stupid and the characters are stereotypes. The movie is full of technical flaws, but then again Tom Hardy makes me like it. Edited June 3, 2019 by Rodolphe Dux
Member DarthKato Posted June 3, 2019 Member Share Posted June 3, 2019 Lets see.... 1- "Fight Club" (1999) Didn't like it at all. 2- " 'The Little Princess" (1939) Probably my favorite Shirley Temple film. 3- " The Replacement Killers" (1998) Very good movie.
Member Drunken Monk Posted June 7, 2019 Member Share Posted June 7, 2019 Preacher - Me and the wife were in desperate need of a new tv show so we thought we'd give this one ago. Pretty impressed with the first three episodes. It doesn't answer a lot of questions but it is a fun little ride. Quirky and violent, just the way I like it. Laid to Rest 2 - Ultra gory sequel to a very solid slasher. This one fails to capture the low budget magic of the first. It's clunky and tries to go down a very mundane path with its plot. However, the kills are very fun to watch. Definitely one for gore hounds. Shazam! - A pretty entertaining superhero movie. A little more comical and kid friendly than your typical comic book fare, but it still has enough to be enjoyed by adults. Not DC's best but solid enough.
SMK
Terrified (2018) - Shudder - Creepy as hell, had me jumping a few times. Watched with earbuds, so it's scarier when the volume is at a decent level. The Witch in the Window (2018) - Shudder - Also really enjoyed this one. Definitely creepy. Cobra Kai (Season 1 & 2) - YouTube Original - I REALLY enjoyed this series, I can not wait for season 3.

Member Secret Executioner Posted June 7, 2019 Member Share Posted June 7, 2019 It's a bird, it's a plane, it's... More Superman. From the 2-DVD collection The Best of Superman Super Friends - "Terror from the Phantom Zone" (Season 3, Episode 8, Segment 1) (1978) In this segment (the whole episode had another segment involving the Legion of Doom called "Secret Origins of the Super Friends" - guess this is one of the All-New Super Friends Hour segments from the Challenge of the Super Friends era) three Kryptonian criminals manage to escape from the Phantom Zone where Superman put them. They now want revenge on the Man of Steel. Also, some more Superman: The Animated Series. "Target" (Season 2, Episode 7) (1997) Someone seems very determined to get rid of Lois Lane, using advanced technology in the process. Could Luthor (whose company manufactured items used in the attempts) be involved ? Or is it someone involved with both Lexcorp and Lois ?

Member Tex Killer Posted June 11, 2019 Member Share Posted June 11, 2019 (edited) walking dead season 8. After excellent ssn#7 was waiting lot from this but it`s a bit step down. Main storyline is disagreements between Saviours and Rick+co..and there is not much else. Lots of action, one long time character passing away, good they did not focus too much on sorrow work. One thing bugged me a lot, in around middle of season there is 2 episodes on a row where things happen in nighttime...Darkness does not make stuff more scary or exciting but it makes at times hard to see what is going on... Good but hopefully #9 improves back to quality of #7. Edited June 11, 2019 by Tex Killer
Member AlbertV Posted June 11, 2019 Member Share Posted June 11, 2019 Project Ithaca (2019): Really good sci-fi film about random people abducted by aliens who feed off the humans' fear to power their ship. Really good concept filled with flashbacks that give the backstories of the humans. A few twists mixed in and some great performances from the cast, notably lead James Gallanders. Plus One (2019): Two lifelong friends who are invited to weddings over the summer decide to become each other's "plus one". You know where this is going but what drives the film is the chemistry between leads Maya Erskine, who is freaking hilarious as the very blunt female Alice and Jack Quaid, who is great and sometimes miserable as Ben, who contends with his father's upcoming 3rd marriage amidst the chaos. A Madea Family Funeral (2019): The final Madea film is also perhaps one of its most tense and at times, most insane with I swear this is the first time I heard an F-bomb drop in a Madea movie. When Madea, Hattie, Uncle Joe, and Aunt Bam catch a relative die in a "uncompromising situation", all hell is set to break loose. It's not as good as some of the past Madea films, but it seems to be a fitting ending to a film series that started 15 years ago.
Member DarthKato Posted June 16, 2019 Member Share Posted June 16, 2019 Okay! 1- "The Head Hunter" (2018) Okay, I just finished the rest of the movie. Let me first say that you shouldn't go into this movie just wanting and action film, or you will probably be disappointed(I pretty much thought it was going to be another sword and sorcery film, just set in a darker world). Because this movie is pretty much a Horror film in the same vain as "The Evil Dead", but with very little actual fighting(If any). If you just accept it as it is though, you are in for a real treat. This film has some of the best atmosphere building I've ever seen. Its almost like it could be set in the "Dark Souls" universe(Which is what it reminded me of. Well, that and "Evil Dead". The story is simple, but really engaging: A Man is trying to kill the monster that murdered his daughter. That's it. Very simple, but it works. Really, nothing I say can really do this film justice. Just watch it and experience it for yourselves. You are in for a real treat.

Member Tex Killer Posted June 22, 2019 Member Share Posted June 22, 2019 bird with the crystal plumage. American man walks pass by of an art gallery and sees murder attempt. But he is not sure exactly what he saw, something bothers him but he can`t figure out what...Series of murders have happened in Rome and police takes his passport so as an witness can`t leave city with gf...Eventually he starts to investigate case... It`s been several years since last time saw this Dario Argento masterpiece and was happy that had forgotten most of it>made revisit highly enjoyable. Not much logic defying things happen... Spoiler except how writers gf and friend end up to murderers house in end It may not have visual(and sonical) impact of Suspiria or Inferno which makes it has more re-watch value but still Bird is one of Argentos finest...
Member Secret Executioner Posted June 23, 2019 Member Share Posted June 23, 2019 (edited) The Wasp Woman (USA, 1959) A scientist has put together a de-aging formula from "insects enzymes", more specifically from a wasp secretion. The head of a cosmetics firm nearing bankruptcy takes him in despite the rest of the board being suspicious and the product seems to do wonders, but things get very ugly with its unexpected side-effects. A Roger Corman production and directorial effort, this one is a pretty fun watch - some suspense, a lot of atmosphere, and a silly, cheap but well-used monster costume. Member DarthKato Posted June 24, 2019 Member Share Posted June 24, 2019 Hmm.... 1- "1911" (2011) Pretty entertaining film, even if I didn't really know much of anything about the real life people and events. Also not really one of Jackie Chan's usual films, but it was interesting to see him in a more serious, non-martial arts(Though there is a fight scene near the end), film. 2- "Vacation" ( 2015) A weird Reboot/Sequel film to the original National Lampoon's Vacation. Actually turned out to be pretty good. Some of the humor is crude and might be a turnoff to some folks, but I found it to be a decent comedy. Also I have loved Cristina Applegate since watching her on Married With Children when I was a kid, so seeing her again was awesome. 3- "Bride Wars" (2009) Really surprised me that this movie was actually pretty good. 4- "The Tuxedo" (2002) Putting this here because this movie doesn't really scream "Marital Arts" film to me. Its more of a Spy-Spoof movie, even though Jackie does do some Martial arts in it. Eh, It was alright. I've seen better(Most other Jackie Chan Films) and I've seen worst( Rush Hour 3 *Shutters*).
Member Drunken Monk Posted June 24, 2019 Member Share Posted June 24, 2019 Brightburn - Despite not being a critical success, I think this is one of the best films I've seen in 2019. It relies on classic horror tropes, granted, but the idea behind it is unique and it has some fantastic little gore scenes. A truly original, well directed horror film. A whole lot of fun. The Matrix - I revisited this one the other night and it's just as good as it ever was. Yes, some of the special effects haven't aged well, but, other than that, it really deserves its iconic status. The fight scenes still feel fresh (despite some awful sound effects) and the concept will always be a classic. Masterpiece? Hmm...arguable. But it deserves its place among the greats. Jett (Cinemax) - I enjoyed the first episode of this show. But while I'm a massive fan of tits and ass, I felt the second episode was awfully gratuitous. To the point of feeling sleazy. I'm sure that's exactly what they're going for but I didn't love the sleazier moments. They felt a little out of place. Maybe I was just having an odd moment because, on most days, full frontal nudity is very much my jam.

Member DarthKato Posted June 25, 2019 Member Share Posted June 25, 2019 Ugh.... 1- "The Dead Undead" (2010) Just got through watching this. It was a pile of trash. lol Everything from the horrid acting, non-sense plot, and boring action made this a chore to watch. And they seemed to have the balls to actually set up a sequel. I hope they didn't actual make another one these things.
Member AlbertV Posted June 26, 2019 Member Share Posted June 26, 2019 The 16th Episode - an upcoming horror film about three YouTubers who are trying to get more views for their adventure channel. When they go to Morocco for their latest episode, one slowly becomes possessed by a demon and it is up to her two friends to find a way to help her. What's great is during their quest to save their friend, both guys tend to use humor as an outlet of their fears and anger and the actors playing the duo, Einar Kuusk and Cody Heuer, play off each other extremely well. But there are some tense moments and some very interesting turns with Rosine Young doing an excellent job as a matriarch-like figure whose character reminds me of something Lin Shaye would be perfect in playing. The film comes out this Friday.
Member HyperDrive Posted June 28, 2019 Member Share Posted June 28, 2019 In Gold We Trust (1990): After a botched gold for POW exchange, a mercenary group is hired by the US government to retrieve both. They team up with a Hmong village and end up fighting everything from the Laotian army to a lost valley of WWII Japanese battalions. A very fun watch.
