The Bronx Bull
Originally thought to be a sequel to Raging Bull until MGM threatened to sue. It's more of a new take that delves both before and after the career of Jake LaMotta, played now by William Forsythe.

Lavender
A photographer who was once the lone survivor of a family massacre returns home to discover a dark secret that she may have been involved with. Has the feel of a old school M.Night Shyamalan film. From the director of The Last Exorcism Part II, who I also interviewed

Frightmare(1974)  - British horror classic co-wrote and directed by Peter Walker, starring Deborah Fairfax, Paul Greenwood, Rupert Davies and Sheila Keith. An old woman lures young lonely people to her secluded farm house, by promising them a tarot card reading. Only her clients get more than they bargained for. While this movie may appear dated now, it still holds up pretty well. It must have been a pretty shocking film, at the time of its release. There's a strong supporting cast, but Sheila Keith steals the film as the crazy old lady with unusual eating habits. One to watch if you enjoy old school British horror.

Colt In The Hand Of The Devil(1973) - Italian western starring Robert Woods, William Berger, and George Wang. Directed and co-wrote by Gianfranco Baldenello. While serving time in prison, Roy Koster(Robert Woods) is saved by a fellow inmate. He promises the old man who saved his life, that he will help him once he’s on the outside. This leads him to silver town, a small community over run by bandits. There he faces off against the local gang, and in doing so keeps his promise to the old man. Entertaining spaghetti western, that pulls no punches.

A Street Cat Named Bob(2016) - Based on the factual book of the same name, by James Bowen. A recovering heroin addict and street musician James Bowen(Luke Treadaway), is at an all time low. He's given the chance to clean up and move into flat, thanks to his social worker Val. One night a stray cat breaks into the property, changing the course of his life forever. This movie is based on a true story, it’s a very touching and well made production. A true story, that wouldn't believe was true if someone told you about it. Filmed in and around London, with Convent Garden taking centre stage. For fans of independent British cinema, the film like the book is very touching.

It was average, though I felt the story was better than average and certianly a bit different. Went into the movie with no expectations at all.

Oops, just noticed your last sentence was judgement of movie. Well story does not sound too formulaic. I let you know in few days how was it.

I gave Pete Walker a chance some time ago, but lost my interest after two movies. Frightmare was one of them and it was ok, nothing more. House of Whipcord (1974), Walker's take on the WIP genre, was slightly better, but nothing that would impress me enough to check out more of his stuff.

Its had the opposite effect on me, and I'll be keeping an eye out for his other movies now.

Just watched "Get Out" in theaters. People have been jizzing all over this film. It is pretty good but misinterpreted as a horror film. It's a psychological thriller with bits of comedy. Barely any blood and no guts.

There is a huge plothole, not sure if that's what it's called. Maybe mistake or something? How does someone plug cotton in their ears if their hands are strapped down? Sorry if that's a spoiler but what?

Never watch movies like this in the hood. And fuck cellphones. Ban them from theaters. You're not that important.

marine 3. Very poor compared to parts1&2...Story of bitter man who lost his sister and father indirectly by capitalism makes him rob bank&burn! the money and planning to blow up businessmen is quite silly. Some ok shoot-out scenes but that`s all. Definitely one to get rid of disc..

Far more entertaining was the boss. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069818/plotsummary?ref_=tt_ov_pl

Henry Silva plays as hitman working for mafioso. There are doublecrosses and violence+good plot.

Some interesting trivia on this: Mike Mizanin's stunt/fight double on the film was Kickboxer: Vengeance star Alain Moussi and Moussi and Darren Shahlavi are on-screen together in their fight scene. The two became friends and Shahlavi then asked Moussi to talk to the producers of Kickboxer to play the role of Eric Sloane after Scott Adkins opted not to take the role.

My latest non-MA film viewing:

Amerigeddon - In an alternate United States, the UN chairman is now a global terrorist who forces the President to declare martial law when he has the power grid destroyed. A Texan ex-military officer turned businessman and an AWOL Army lieutentant whose mother is dating said businessman gear up to start a new "American Revolution". The film was directed by Mike Norris (yes the son of birthday boy Chuck Norris), who also has a cameo in the film. Full review here:

Sausage Party - eh, I don't know, a movie like this should appeal to my childish sense of humor but I think having every cliche ethnic stereotype along with every sexual innuendo shoved down my throat the whole movie was a bit to much, plus, I just don't find Seth Rogen all that funny.

The Red Panther (Hong Kong, 1983) [DVD] - 3/5
This is one of those "only in Hong Kong" films that mixes silly comedy and relatively outrageous exploitation as if there was nothing odd about that combination. The film follows a comical dumbass of a detective (with awesome porno moustache) trying to stop a killer uses a surgeon's knife to perform operations on live victims (he also attacks dead bodies from time to time). It's frenetically paced horror/thriller/comedy with some semi nasty violence and a decent amount of nudity. Too incoherent to be genuinely good film, but also impossible not to like.

The Emerald Forest (USA, 1985) [DVD] - 4/5
I was 7 years old when I first saw this on TV with my parents. It took me more than 20 years to track it down, partly because I didn't know what the movie was called until someone recognized it from my description. I could still quite clearly remember several key scenes (the opening, the river chase, the wall etc.). Although guilty of some naivety and clearly made by a "white man", it's a good meaning, often breath taking and unforgettable adventure, shot in amazing locations in the jungle. Films like this are, and have always been, rare.

eme1.jpgeme2.jpg

The Nice Guys (USA, 2016)  [DCP] - 3.5/5
Gosling for guys.

La La Land (USA, 2016) [DCP] - 3.5/5
Gosling for girls.

La La Land won me over with the ending: Chazelle does Whiplash again and it's amazing. But I still can't get into the "whole street starts singing for no reason" musical scenes. It's like a martial arts movie where everyone suddenly starts kung fu fighting with strangers for no reason. Now, Gosling and Stone singing and dancing is different: that makes enough sense in a movie universe since they are a musician and an actress in love with a musician.)

The Huntsman: Winter's War(2016) - Fantasy prequel/sequel to Snow White & The Huntman(2010), like the first movie this is nothing special but also far from being unwatchable. Emily Blunt is the ice queen Freya, who is at war with her fellow magical sister Ravenna(Charlize Theron). While Huntsman(Chris Hemsworth) tries to keep his love of fellow warrior Sara(Jessica Chastain) a secret. Entertianing enough, just nothing ground breaking or special to recommend it. I watched the extended edition, but having not watched the theatrical cut I'm not sure if its the better version?.

Codename Vengeance(1087) - Robert Ginty(The Exterminator) and ex plaboy model/softcore queen Shannon Tweed star in this David Winters(Rage To Kill) directed actioner. The wife and son of the African preisdent have been kidnapped by terrorist by the name of Tarbruk(James Ryan). Only one man can get them back save Monroe(Ginty), only he's stuck in a hell hole of a prison. Average gung ho African B-movie action, with the late Cameron Mitchell playing ex soldier Dutch. Fans of Ginty and James Ryan will want to check this out, but there's no Martial Arts displays from the Karate Kill star.

Aw shucks, just clicked on this trailer and was stunned to realize that I actually saw this crapfest theatrically back in... well, feels like it must have been before Christ was born but, yeah, think it was indeed back in 1984. Never read a Superman comic book in my life, never watched a film of this ilk before, but whatever the reason for my inability to connect, this joint was just unbelievably inane - sillier than GHOSTBUSTERS even, which, I think, emerged the following year - and I hated myself for actually paying to see it. Funny though that I still remember the scenes in the trailer so well after more than three decades...

Watched it on T.V as a kid, but I havent seen it since then. The trialer brought back alot of memories, certianly one of the oddest super hero movies to come out of Hollywood.

I finally finished this (now have to read the booklet) after a few  several years.  It is over 19 hours and full of lesser known early cinematic works.  It stated avant-garde, but I would not always consider this so, but there is enough of it to either titillate your lesser known cinematic fancy and/or drive you to the brink of madness (especially if you watch too much in a row.)  One aspect that I'm not always fond of is fragments of film for example on the last disk it only shows a sliver of an early Charlton Heston film Peer Gynt (though by the footage I'm not sure I could watch the whole thing.)  But it then shows a segment from Busby Berkeley's Wonder Bar and I can pretty much watch any large choreography piece he is done (but still I tend to prefer watching films as a whole.)  Ultimately though I think this set is only for die hard cinema fans with a lot of time and patience.  Still you will learn a little more about early, silent, avant-garde (though I repeat it is not all avant-garde) cinema.

This is OOP and the Amazon price is pretty damn high.

Any holiday occasion nowadays seems to be an excuse to roll out some 80's / 90's cheesy goodness on TV :smile While I usually skip most of the stuff as I've literally already seen it a hundred times, I sometimes get stuck with one particular movie. This time I found myself watching The Golden Child, starring Eddie Murphy. I gotta admit I still enjoy this movie. I mean what's there not to like... You've got comedy, action, adventure a bit of romance, great one-liners and a nice soundtrack. Still one of my favourite Murphy movies. And I guess the german dub does the rest :laugh

Underworld: Blood Wars - Kate Beckinsale's former Death Dealer Selene returns and with after the events of Awakening has no allegiance as both Vampires and Lycans want her because they think she knows where her hybrid daughter Eva is as her blood is believed to put an end to the long war between the two factions. This installment has Selene joining with the Eastern Coven of Vampires when a traitorous servant plots to take over the cover herself. Selene and the half-human son of the coven's leader go to the home of the peaceful Nordic Coven only to be pursued by the Lycans but revelations are imminent. I think with how this film ended, it should put an end to the series but I have a hunch there will be a sixth film down the road even if Beckinsale and producer/original film creator Len Wiseman are no longer married. Not a bad installment, but more of the usual shtick in the series.

Hard to Kill (USA, 1990) [DVD] - 3.5/5
I don't know if it's just me, but in this film Seagal comes out as an even bigger asshole than usual. Throughout the film he intentionally keeps damaging innocent people's property. First, a woman saves his life and offers him a hideout in a beautiful mansion. What does Seagal do when the bad guys find them? He grabs and throws every one of them through the vitrines, windows, tables, and porcelain. Wow. Later in the film he's attacked in Chinatown. That time he destroys all the poor street vendors' vans. What an asshole. That being said, the movie is solid 90s Seagal action, though not his best. Suffers from a very predictable storyline.

Marked for Death (USA, 1990) [DVD] - 3.5/5
More asshole antics by Seagal as he destroys a jewellery shop in a fight scene and walk away as if he was proud of it all. I suppose you could justify some of his assholiness as he's up against one of the most genuinely frightening villains in any action film, Screwface (effectively played by Basil Wallace). This might also be Seagal's most violent film with loads of very painful sounding bone breakings. A hard core action film.

Out for Justice (USA, 1991) [DVD] - 3.5/5
Although not my favourite Seagal film, this is his most accomplished one in terms of storyline and characters. Seagal is an Italian-American cop going after crazed killer William Forsythe who has gone nuts in Brooklyn and is killing people left and right. Both the police and the mafia want him dead. While the film's first half is a bit messy (and features a distracting soundtrack) it would not be impossible to imagine a lot of the stuff from the second half to a 70s or 80s Al Pacino or Robert De Niro film. It's a surprisingly functional gangster film, and a higher rating than 3.5/5 would not be out of question.

Under Siege (USA, 1992) [DVD] - 4/5
I saw this as a kid, and like all young boys who saw it back in the 90s on VHS, never forgot that cake scene. I'm a little embarrassed to admit but I still like Erika Eleniak in this film. What's more important, however, is that this is top notch Seagal with great production values. Entertaining action, good villains and an awesome battleship setting. The sequel, however, is even better. A small bit of trivia: the film was released in Japan as 沈黙の戦艦, "The Battleship of Silence" or "Silent Battleship", which started a naming trend. By March 2017, more than 30 Steven Seagal films have been titled "Silence" something in Japan. On Deadly Ground is "Fort of Silence", The Patriot is "Silent Plot", and so on.

Under Siege 2: Dark Territory (USA, 1995) [DVD] - 4/5
Steven Seagal's most enjoyable movie? This feels a bit cheaper than the first film (although it wasn't), but it offers bone crunching, fast moving Seagal action at its best. There's not a dead moment in the film. Great villains as well, especially Everett McGill, and the film's climax is ridiculously awesome. A couple of special effects look badly dated, though.

The Glimmer Man (USA, 1996) [DVD] - 3/5
Steven Seagal goes serial killer thriller. This has a very entertaining start, but the film partly runs out of steam during the repetitive second half. There are far more plot threads here than in your average Seagal film, and that's part of the problem as the film fails to tie them together in a coherent way. In the end, the story somewhat makes sense, but you don't feel it's the work of accomplished filmmakers. Nevertheless, the film is better than its reputation. I'd imagine the reception was a bit harsh upon its release for it is basically Seven meets Lethal Weapon meets older Seagal films, and it's not as good as any of them. Now that two decades have passed, I think it's easier to see the film as what it is: a pretty decent product of its time.

I love how he manages to get outof the Hospital and evade bad guys, despite the fact hes bed bound and just recovering from a coma.

The lynx effect, the future Mrs Seagal Kelly Le Brock succumbs to Mason Storms charms in Hard To Kill(1990)

The Founder (2016) - Michael Keaton as Ray Kroc, the man who saw potential in a small fast food drive-in located in San Bernardino, CA and ran with it, franchising it and going against all odds to "find" one of the most beloved companies today, McDonald's. Surprisingly, Nick Offerman goes against type as one of the McDonald brothers, who tries to become an "iron fist" in terms of running the company and ultimately falls to Kroc.

skipatrolstill.jpg?w=800&h=400&crop=1

Ski Patrol (1989) - An attempt to bring the humor of the Police Academy films to the ski slopes as by this time, the PA steam was running out. The film would mark the film debuts of comedian George Lopez and future Spy, The Heat, and Ghostbusters Redux director Paul Feig. It is a fun film IMO.

thehollywoodknightsstill.png

The Hollywood Knights (1980) - What would you do on the last night your favorite hangout is going to be up and running? Cause all sorts of fun and mayhem and that's what happens in this American Graffiti meets classic teen comedy meshing that features an ensemble cast of up-and-comers including Michelle Pfeiffer, Fran Drescher, Tony Danza, and Robert Wuhl. Despite some obvious continuity errors, IMO, underrated for its time.

Really long time from last view, it turned out to be even better than thought. Script and score are not among best spaghettis but still damn good. However excellent cast makes it masterpiece.

Can`t go wrong with Clint, Lee van Cleef and superb Gian Maria.
