Member Takuma Posted January 14, 2012 Member Share Posted January 14, 2012 After several years of waiting, this project is finally coming true. Filming has apparently been completed. Kenkichi is a samurai film co-directed by Sion Sono and Tak Sakaguchi, with Sakaguchi playing the lead role. The project was originally called The Blood of the Wolves, but I'm not sure if this is still the English title. It also seems the content may (or may not) have changed since the original plans, with Taku now speaking of it being very realistic, as opposed to the fantasy elements that were mentioned in the original news a few years ago. Well, we'll see when more news come up. In an interview in July 2011 Sakaguchi said: "The medium-sized project I’m working on with my best friend, Sion Sono and we hope to get into it this year. It’s a very realistic samurai story; a hero that goes beyond a dark hero, where basically he just murders human beings." also "This year and next year I’m going to be bringing my fans two samurai films with amazing katana sword-fighting that no one’s ever seen. That will completely destroy all sword-fighting scenes from all past films. So I want everyone to look forward to that. Also, finally, there’s going to be a long-awaited sequel to a film and I’m sorry I can’t say which film it is, but that’s also coming out for everyone to enjoy and look forward to. We’ll shoot it this year, so {you’ll see it} probably next year." - http://www.thedivareview.com/Yakuza_Weapon_Tak_Sakaguchi_Interview.htm IMDb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2123988/ Related blog: http://ameblo.jp/emilyrocks-takya/theme-10046125968.html
Moderator One Armed Boxer Posted January 19, 2012 Moderator Share Posted January 19, 2012 Great find! So this is the "ultimate swords-play" movie that Takaguchi has been talking about for so long....can't wait for this to be released, his movies come out too few and far between...the fact that it's being helmed by Sono Sion puts my expectations even higher. Member ShaOW!linDude Posted January 22, 2012 Member Share Posted January 22, 2012 Don't know how I missed this thread. This is good news if it holds true. So, any of you think he's referring to a sequel of Versus?
