Watched a VHS copy of this; wide/subbed. Really enjoyed this one.

Great cast (Hwang Jang-Lee, Leung Kar-Yan, Jason Pai Piao) but beyond that --

a nice production all together. Some great camera work (hand-held, tracking).

One scene early on reminded me of a spag-west with the music/editing.

Only thing I didn't care for is some sporadic magical elements but that's just minor.

Full flick on YouTube. Check it out if you haven't....

So what is the real Release Year of this film?

The HKMDB used to be 1979, but now it's 1984.

The IMDB, Douban and the Chinese-language Wikipedia page say 1979.

Tried for years to get some satifactory confirmation on this, never happened. I doubt it's either. But probably closer to '79 than '84. Also, remember that the release date data on HKMDB is all over the place now, but you know this. Would be cool if someone had the magazine you see pages from, as that would help nail it down a bit.

@Cognoscente - Do you have any magazine info on this film?

It was advertised in a 1984 issue of Cinemart as featured below.

Wow, must say I'm a bit surprised. Would have thought '81-'82 max. Well, there you go.

I suppose it makes a certain amount a sense. Ninja Hunter came out the same year and had the same trope of the guy who sucked the life energy out of naked women to power-up his kung fu. I imagine one inspired the other.
