Spanish horror rules! My only problem is, I get a lot of Spanish movies confused with Italian movies... the styles tend to be kind of similar. But I did some checking and I'm pretty sure all these are Spanish...

I love all the Blind Dead movies... I hope somebody puts out some uncut versions of the ones that Brentwood recently put out, but I'm glad to have ?em in any form for now.

Werewolf Shadow and Horror Rises from the Tomb are both cool, too... I love Paul Naschy. There are a few other Naschy movies available on DVD. Two more wolfman movies - Curse of the Devil and Fury of the Wolfman. Curse is an Anchor Bay release so it looks primo... Fury is a cheap DVD but it's okay, given the price. Curse you can get from DVDPlanet or just about anywhere, but about the only place I've seen carrying Fury of the Wolfman is http://www.creepyclassics.com They have a lot of good stuff, but sometimes their prices aren't as good as other places... and sometimes they're better, so be sure to comparison-shop. Good, fast service from them, though. There's an obscure (and weird) Naschy zombie movie, Vengeance of the Zombies, out on cheap DVD, too (one of those Telefilms International things, but it doesn't look as bad as some of their stuff) - the only place I've seen with that one is http://www.trashpalace.com That's not to be confused with his other zombie movie, "The Hanging Woman" - I *hope* somebody'll put that out on DVD one of these days. Sinister Cinema has one of Naschy's vampire movies, Count Dracula's Great Love, which they say is uncut. I haven't seen their copy yet, but I loved my old taped-from-TV VHS copy so the uncut version (with plenty of gore, I think) is definitely on my list... http://www.sinistercinema.com All of Sinister's stuff is DVD-R, though, so be sure your player will play those. One of mine won't, the others will. Another Naschy movie, Crimson, is also readily available, but that one's not as much of a horror movie as it looks... it's more like a weird crime movie with some very illogical horror elements. Naschy gets shot in the head and they give him a brain transplant from a criminal called "The Sadist", but - oddly enough! - he starts to take on characteristics of The Sadist. Well, gee, considering he got the guy's brain that shouldn't come as much of a surprise... it'd be more surprising if he had any of his own characteristics left, but, go figure...

Sinister Cinema also has Bell From Hell, which is a really stylish movie that's grown on me over the years. Too bad the director died on the last day of filming... from falling from the bell tower used in the movie. Anyway, it's about a guy who gets released from an asylum and comes home, supposedly "cured," but he starts playing crazy games and pranks on everybody... Sinister also has The Lorelei's Grasp on DVD-R, if I remember correctly... that's a gory sea-monster kinda thing, with a "horror alarm" where the screen flashes red before a heart gets ripped out or something, so you'll know to cover your eyes (or, if you're like me, you'll know to look up and start paying attention. ;) )

Also on big-name-brand DVDs that should be available from DVD Planet (provided they're still in print) are Cannibal Man (which isn't gory and doesn't actually have cannibalism, but is still a great horror flick with an air of desperation... a guy kills some people but can't figure out how to dispose of the bodies, and they start stinking up his apartment, so he starts cutting them up and taking parts to a meat processing plant to mix with the hamburger...) Blood Spattered Bride is a well-done lesbian-vampire movie, based (sorta) on Le Fanu's "Carmilla." Plenty o' sex ?n' violence. Graveyard of Horror is also pretty cool, an atmospheric, weird movie about a guy whose brother is apparently some kind of corpse-eating monster. Scream of the Demon Lover is out on a cheap double-feature DVD called "Euroshockers," along with Bava's Hatchet for the Honeymoon, but I think Scream of the Demon Lover will be out in a month or so in a better version under the title, "Blood Castle," so you might want to wait... or get both, since the double feature disc is only about ten bucks and Hatchet's a good movie and I think the copy wasn't bad, plus the disc has an audio-bonus - a rare, 3-hour radio show version of Frankenstein that was broadcast on British radio in the ?30's. I dubbed it off onto a tape and listened to it in the car. Also, Malenka, aka Fangs of the Living Dead, is out on DVD. So is Awful Dr. Orloff and some other Jess Franco movies, but only try Franco out once you've gotten absolutely everybody else, because he's a terrible hack. On the plus side, though, Awful Dr. Orloff is only $7.50 at DVD Planet and it's about as good as Franco gets.. it does have some atmosphere and was kind of influential. I'll snag Franco's Virgin Among The Living Dead in a couple months when it comes out, but that's just because I'm a zombie completist. Oasis of the Zombies by Franco is also $7.50, but I warn you - that is one seriously bad film. The DVD quality is okay... it's just that the movie sucks and sucks hard. And not even in a good way. But then, I knew that and still paid the $7.50 for it, so I figured I'd pass it along just in case. Zombie Lake is $7.50, too, and that's another bad one, even though it's from a much, much better director - Jean Rollin. It's Rollin's worst movie by a long shot, but... it's cheap. If you want to splurge, other $7.50 Eurohorror at DVD Planet includes Psychomania (British, living dead on motorcycles... it's silly and there's no gore (the living dead don't even look dead when they come back) but I've always liked it for some reason) and Cave of the Living Dead (Yugoslavian vampire stuff, pretty atmospheric) and Cat and the Canary (not the silent, but the remake from Radley Metzger, who usually does porn) and The Terror of Frankenstein (slow but faithful-to-the-book Swedish version).

I just got The Devil's Kiss... it came out about a week ago, but I haven't gotten to see it yet, so I don't know much about it. Looks pretty good...

And I know I'm missing some more and will wake up at 3 a.m. kicking myself, but that should cover a good bit of stuff, at least... :)

thanx for all the info. i have FURY OF THE WOLFMAN and plan on getting CURSE OF THE DEVIL. i'll look for some of the other titles you mentioned but i tend to go for the monster/zombie stuff more than the psycho stuff.

One Spanish horror film I always liked is Murder Mansion (1972).

It's about people who are traveling along a road when they run into a thick fog and take shelter in a mansion supposedly haunted by its long dead tenants who were said to be vampires. It has its moments of atmosphere.

I don't think it's on DVD, except for maybe an overpriced DVD-R floating around, but it was released by Charter on VHS in the 1980s.
